Los Angeles Dodgers superstar designated hitter Shohei Ohtani makes his MLB World Series debut in Game 1 against the New York Yankees on Friday night.
This season was the first time Ohtani reached the MLB Postseason, and he enters the series as the +200 favorite to win World Series MVP.
By his lofty standards, Ohtani struggled in his first playoff series - the NLDS vs. the San Diego Padres - as he went 4-for-20 with one home run, four RBI, two walks and a .623 OPS. But he reached his usual heights in the NLCS against the New York Mets: 8-for-22, two home runs, six RBI, nine walks, 1.185 OPS.
Ohtani played a big role in the NLCS-clinching Game 6 win, hitting an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend LA's lead to 7-3, and he was driven in by a Mookie Betts double two innings later to make it 8-4.
And in the Game 3, LA's third win of the best-of-seven series, Ohtani hit a leadoff home run and scored three more runs - for four total - in the game.
Game 1 of the Padres NLDS series was his first-ever playoff game, and Ohtani went 2-for-5 with three RBI which all came from a second-inning home run. In Game 1 of the NLCS, he went 2-for-4 with an RBI, two runs and a walk.
The Yankees' Game 1 starter is six-time All-Star and 2023 AL Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole. Ohtani is 4-for-20 against Cole with a double, a home run, three RBI and a walk, but they haven't faced off since 2022.
Let's take a look at Ohtani's odds for his first World Series game.
