The month of July is nearly over, but not before an intriguing night of boxing this weekend, headlined by a massive fight between Claressa Shields and Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse, which is scheduled for 10 rounds.

The fight between Shields and Lepage-Joanisse will be for Lepage-Joanisse’s WBC Heavyweight title, as well as the vacant WBC Light Heavyweight title.

Shields comes into this fight with a professional boxing record of 14-0.
She made her professional boxing debut in November of 2016. Following her first win, she earned a title fight in March of 2017, where she won the vacant NABF female middleweight title. Shields then claimed the vacant WBC Silver female super middleweight title in June of 2017, and both the WBC and IBF female super middleweight titles in August of 2017.
Continuing her success, the 29-year-old won the WBAN lineal super middleweight title in January of 2018, and the vacant WBA and the IBF female middleweight titles in June of 2018. She then took the vacant WBC female middleweight title in November of 2018 and the both the WBO and The Ring female middleweight titles in April of 2019.
Shields added the vacant WBC and WBO female light middleweight titles to her list of accomplishments in January of 2020, as well as the IBF, vacant WBA Super, and The Ring female light middleweight titles in March of 2021.
Overall, the fighter from Flint, Michigan has triumphed only twice by way of knockouts, and 12 times by decision. Her upcoming fight against Lepage-Joanisse will be a huge test as she is stepping up to the heavyweight division for the first time.
Lepage-Joanisse comes into this fight with a professional boxing record of 7-1.
She made her professional boxing debut in March of 2016 when she defeated Annie Mazerolle by split decision. After starting her career 3-0, Lepage-Joanisse was given her first title fight in August of 2017. This fight was against Alejandra Jimenez and was for the WBC female heavyweight title, losing by technical knockout in the third round.
Bouncing back from this loss, Lepage-Joanisse won her next three fights in a row, these coming in March of 2023, May of 2023, and September of 2023. This winning streak earned her another title fight for the then vacant WBC female heavyweight title against Abril Argentina Vidal in March of 2024 when she got the split decision to claim her first title.
Lepage-Joanisse has won just twice by knockout in her career with five of her wins coming by decision. Further, her only loss came by knockout.
