There’s five meetings set to take place this Thursday with provincial fixtures from Gosford and Townsville plus country meetings at Mornington, Armidale and York.
Race 6 Gosford
Secaution @ 19/10
Race 7 Mornington
Mr Blackwood @ 9/2
Race 4 Townsville
Siren Rock @ 6/4
Magadan is expected to have his supporters ahead of the sixth race on the Gosford card, a 1200m maiden set to take place on a soft 6 track.
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained three-year-old showed plenty of ability when delivering a second place finish in a 13 runner 1300m maiden at Kembla Grange on debut last month.
Found only the more experienced favourite too good for him that day having tracked the early pace.
The Russian Revolution colt may have his work to do if he is to employ similar tactics here given he has drawn barrier 12 and as such preference is for fellow once-raced performer Secaution.
Trained by Annabel Neasham the daughter of Sebring made a promising debut when beaten less than a length into fourth in an 1100m maiden at Warwick Farm last month.
Raced from mid-division in that event while she also shaped as if this step up in distance would suit when partnered by her jockey here Chad Schofield.
A draw five off the rail is a further positive here and dropping to provincial level she is taken to break her maiden at the second time of asking.
Jilted Love looks likely to jump as favourite for the seventh race on the Mornington card, a 2020m handicap contest.
The four-year-old built on a string of solid placed efforts in maiden company this spell when successful by two-and-a-half-lengths on a heavy 10 track at Benalla last month.
That effort came over 1606m and while the gelding looks ready for this step up in trip on his first start against winners.
Mr Blackwood is preferred here for trainer Cindy Alderson however with the gelding having shown good form in stronger looking events last spell including when fourth in a 3000m Benchmark 78 event on a good 4 track at Moonee Valley in February.
Showed he can be effective over shorter when fourth in a Benchmark 64 event on a soft 5 track at Sandown Hillside when racing first up this spell and having shown improvement second up last spell the son of Tavistock is selected to double his career tally with regular pilot Ethan Brown up.
Indictment has been in good form of late following up two placed efforts including when third in a big field 1200m Class 1 event here with a narrow margin victory in a 1250m Benchmark 55 affair at Cairns on his penultimate outing.
Subsequently placed third stepping up to this journey back at Cairns and with Nathan Day up once more looks a big player in this field.
The five-year-old is expected to find Siren Rock too good however with the son of Lonhro showing improved form when switched to this venue and distance when finishing runner-up in a Benchmark 65 event on a good 4 track here last month.
Ridden with more restraint that day than in two previous starts this spell and that appeared to suit and with Ryan Wiggins, who boasts a 21% strike-rate (14/67) at this venue in the last year in the saddle Georgina Bourke’s charge is selected to register a third career win.
