SEC College Football Playoff Odds: Who will miss out?

The SEC has eight teams with either two or three losses heading into the final week of the 2024 College Football regular season, and the race for an at-large College Football Playoff bid is heating up.

The Texas Longhorns (10-1, 6-1 SEC) are guaranteed a Playoff spot as they hold the SEC's best record, and they have essentially clinched an SEC Championship appearance. They face No. 20 Texas A&M (8-3, 5-2 SEC) in the final week of the regular season.

The Georgia Bulldogs (9-2, 6-2 SEC) have three wins over ranked teams and have only suffered losses to Alabama and Ole Miss. They're also on course for a SEC Championship appearance - where they'll likely face Texas - and have secured their spot in the 12-team Playoff due their victories over quality opponents.

Beyond Texas and Georgia is where the landscape gets interesting.

Before we get into Playoff scenarios, let's look at SEC teams' odds to make the 2024/25 College Football Playoff heading into the last week of the regular season.

SEC Teams' Odds to Make the College Football Playoff

Tennessee

-500

Alabama

+200

Ole Miss

+320

South Carolina

+320

Texas A&M

+800

Missouri

+2000

The Tennessee Volunteers, with wins over Alabama and Oklahoma on their resume, are favored to get the SEC's third playoff spot and second at-large bid at -500 entering their Week 14 matchup at Vanderbilt.

Tennessee has lost to Georgia 31-17 and Arkansas 19-14 this season. While the loss to Arkansas (6-5, 3-4 SEC) was a bad one, it has not been held against the Volunteers, who allow the fourth-fewest points per game (13.1) in all of Division I College Football.

At +200, the Alabama Crimson Tide (8-3, 4-3 SEC) are second in the odds to earn a Playoff berth. Their odds took a big hit with a 24-3 Week 13 loss to unranked Oklahoma, and they had already lost to Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

The Ole Miss Rebels (8-3, 4-3 SEC) and South Carolina Gamecocks (8-3, 5-3 SEC) are each +320 to clinch a Playoff spot, and they have followed opposite trajectories this season.

Ole Miss scored 40 points or more in each of its first four games, but they fell in their first SEC game of the season against Kentucky. They lost to then-No. 13 LSU two games later, and they lost to Florida by a 24-17 score in Week 13.

South Carolina started the season 3-3 with losses to LSU, Ole Miss and Alabama, but they have won five straight games which includes victories over Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and Missouri. If they can beat No. 12 Clemson in commanding fashion in Week 14, they'll give the Selection Committee something to think about.

Further back in the odds are the Texas A&M Aggies and Missouri Tigers at +850 and +2000 respectively. Both teams have three losses on their record - all of which were against SEC opponents - and they'll need other results to go their way in order to have a chance at the postseason.
