At first glance, it may seem odd to see the injury-riddled Minnesota Wild as heavy favorites against Seattle on Wednesday. Minnesota is without star forward Kirill Kaprizov, defenseman Jonas Brodin, and forwards Joel Eriksson Ek and Marcus Foligno. However, this is the second half of a back-to-back for the Kraken, who will be fatigued after beating up on Chicago (6-2) on Tuesday. Seattle has also lost seven of its last 10 meetings with the Wild.

Wednesday marks the third meeting between the teams this season, with Seattle winning 5-4 in a shootout on Oct. 12 and Minnesota taking the rematch 4-3 on March 4. That said, the Wild have lost seven of their last 11 games and are 2-3 straight up on their current seven-game homestand. Their underlying metrics over the past six weeks have been as bad, if not worse, than Seattle’s.

Since Feb. 1, Minnesota ranks 25th in expected goals percentage, 27th in shot attempt percentage, and dead last in goal share at five-on-five, per Evolving Hockey. Seattle, by comparison, ranks 23rd in expected goals, 11th in shot attempts, and 16th in goal share. The Kraken have also been much stronger offensively, ranking sixth in goals per 60 minutes, while Minnesota has been the league’s worst offensive team.

The Wild still have a much better defense, but Seattle’s expected starter, Philipp Grubauer, has struggled all season. This matchup has gone 6-3-1 to the over in the last 10 meetings, including four straight, and has all the ingredients to go over the total again on Wednesday.
