The Scottish Open marks the final tune-up event before The Open, men’s golf’s fourth and final major of the year, and will feature a loaded field including the returning Rory McIlroy.
It is also the final opportunity for some to qualify for The Open, which takes place the following weekend at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland.
Let’s assess the favorites to win this week at the Renaissance Club.
Rory McIlroy | +800 |
Xander Schauffele | +900 |
Collin Morikawa | +1600 |
Ludvig Aberg | +1600 |
Tommy Fleetwood | +2000 |
Viktor Hovland | +2000 |
Tom Kim | +2500 |
Matt Fitzpatrick | +3000 |
Min Woo Lee | +3000 |
McIlroy (+800), the defending champion of this event, returns to the golf course after a three-week hiatus following his late collapse at the U.S. Open, where he missed two putts from within four feet that would have effectively won him his first major in more than a decade.
The four-time major champion shot 15-under at the Scottish Open a year ago and will be keen to replicate that performance this week.
2024 PGA Championship winner Xander Schauffele is second in the betting at +900.
The American won the 2022 Scottish Open at Renaissance and has enjoyed a red-hot season thus far with 11 top-10s in 16 events, including in all three majors.
Collin Morikawa (+1600) has proven his merit in links golf having won the 2021 Open at Royal St. George’s, although the American has a MC and T71 at his two outings at Renaissance. He’s tied with Ludvig Aberg (+1600), who despite two runners-up and six top-10s this season is yet to record a win.
Tommy Fleetwood (+2000) has arguably the strongest track record at the Scottish Open since it moved to Renaissance in 2019, with finishes of 2-T26-T4-T6, while Viktor Hovland (+2000) is looking to secure his first win of 2024.
Travelers Championship runner-up Tom Kim (+2500) is another name to keep an eye on, with the 22-year-old playing the best golf of his young career this summer.
