Saturday Esports: G2 Esports and MAD Lions can shine at LEC Summer

This year's LEC Summer is in full flow at the LEC Studio in Berlin and there is another packed schedule of matches on Saturday.

The S-Tier event is the summer split for the top League of Legends division in Europe and has a prize pool of €80,000 on the table.

The tournament begins with the regular season, which is ongoing, in which two of the starting 10 teams are eliminated.

The remaining eight sides in contention then progress to the group stage and are divided into two sections with the top two teams in each group then finally advancing to the playoffs, which are played in a double-elimination bracket.

The overall winner of the LEC Summer playoffs will book their place at the LEC Finals 2023 later this year.

But for now the group stage is still in progress and here is a look at KOI against Fnatic, Team Vitality against G2 Esports and Astralis versus MAD Lions.

Fnatic marginal favorites to triumph

OddsKOI +120, Fnatic -163

Neither KOI nor Fnatic enjoyed particularly strong LEC Spring campaigns earlier this year, with both having squeezed through the regular season before being eliminated in the group stage.

Fnatic finished rock bottom of Group A with two defeats from two matches against Astralis and MAD Lions, while in Group B KOI finished third, having at least picked up a win over G2 Esports in their opener.

And there is also not a lot between the sides as far as the LEC Summer 2023 is concerned with Fnatic on a 2-1 record and KOI just below them on a 1-2 record.

In fairness to KOI, they have had the tougher start with Team BDS and MAD Lions featuring in their early matches and this encounter in Berlin could be a tight one.

With that in mind, a bet on over 28.5 kills at -120 could be a decent way to play it in a competitive affair.

Expect G2 Esports to show their class

OddsTeam Vitality +150, G2 Esports -200

Considered two of the more iconic outfits in the realm of LEC, both Team Vitality and G2 Esports reached the playoffs at the LEC Spring earlier this year.

While G2 Esports were edged 3-2 by MAD Lions in the lower-bracket semi-finals, Vitality lost to the same opponents 3-1 in the lower-bracket final.

However, it is fair to say G2 Esports remain the bigger of these two sides and thanks to their performance at the LEC Winter.

They were also involved in the Mid-Season Invitational earlier this year, getting their revenge on MAD Lions in that tournament with a 3-0 win in the lower-bracket.

At -200, G2 Esports look about right but to squeeze more value out of this one, bettors should consider backing the favorites at -6.5 on the kill handicap at -120.

MAD Lions should be comfortable against Astralis

OddsAstralis +175, MAD Lions -250

MAD Lions dug deep in the playoffs to win the LEC Spring earlier this season, having won 3-2 against G2 Esports, 3-1 against Team Vitality and 3-2 against Team BDS to take the title.

They remain one of the fiercest opponents on the European circuit and have shown no signs of slowing down in the LEC Summer, winning all three of their opening matches.

They have faced pretty stern opposition as well, swatting aside Team Vitality, G2 Esports and KOI, and they can show their dominance against Astralis.

MAD Lions have managed 19 kills per game this season, whereas Astralis are averaging only 11.7 and have lost two of their opening three matches.

With that in mind, a bet on MAD Lions at -7.5 on the kill handicap could be worth consideration at -120.
