The San Francisco 49ers suffered a blowout loss by a 38-10 score to the Green Bay Packers in Week 12, and their odds in the outright market took a hit as a result.
The Niners are now +5000 to win the NFL Championship outright this season.
They had been +550 co-favorites with the Kansas City Chiefs entering the season, and they were +1200 entering Week 12. After Week 12, they have the joint-11th shortest odds, tied with the Denver Broncos.
San Francisco has a 5-6 record and is in third place in the NFC West, a division in which every team is either 6-5 or 5-6. That means there is still a route to the postseason for the 49ers, but they are +600 to win the division and have now lost two games in a row.
Almost all of the team's key players have missed at least one game due to injury this season. The only core players to have appeared in all 11 games so far are linebacker Fred Warner, defensive back Deommodore Lenoir and pass rushers Leonard Floyd and Maliek Collins.
While reigning Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey made his season debut in Week 10 after dealing with injuries, he has yet to score a touchdown. Plus, QB Brock Purdy missed the Week 12 loss to Green Bay with a shoulder injury, and star WR Brandon Aiyuk is out for the year with a knee injury.
This 49ers team currently ranks in the bottom 10 in turnovers, in the bottom five in red zone defense, and last in fourth down conversion rate on offense.
San Francisco currently has two more divisional games left, with the Los Angeles Rams in Week 15 and the Arizona Cardinals in Week 18. They also face challenging opponents in the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions over the course of their remaining schedule.
With a difficult slate of remaining games and injuries plaguing the team, can the Niners recover in time to make a deep playoff run?
