Florida Panthers center Sam Bennett has stepped up at exactly the right time, and he could make himself some extra money when he hits free agency this offseason.
Through 20 games in the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, Bennett has a league-high 14 goals to go with six assists for 20 points, and he's caused a lot of problems for the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final with his presence in front of the net.
Bennett has not been a dominant force throughout his career, but he has posted four straight seasons of 40+ points and is part of a team that has made three straight Stanley Cup Finals. He excelled in the last two postseasons as well, posting 15 points in 20 games in 2023 and then 14 in 19 in '24.
Ahead of NHL free agency, where Bennett could use his leverage after such a prolific postseason, let's look at his next team odds.
FLA Panthers | -130 |
TOR Maple Leafs | +350 |
VGS Golden Knights | +750 |
BOS Bruins | +1600 |
LA Kings | +2000 |
The Florida Panthers, Sam Bennett's current team, are the rather heavy -130 favorites to re-sign him.
Bennett has hit his stride in South Florida since the Calgary Flames traded him there during the 2020/21 campaign. He had 140 points in 402 regular-season games with Calgary, but he's posted 196 points in 289 games as a Panther. The Panthers have $17 million in cap space entering the offseason, which should be enough to get a deal done.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are the +350 second-favorites to land Bennett, but his may hinge on whether or not the Leafs can keep right-winger Mitch Marner. Marner is a much more prolific player than Bennett, but the current Panthers center would add much-needed physicality and playoff pedigree to Toronto.
Third in the market, and the last team with odds shorter than 10/1, are the Vegas Golden Knights (+750). Vegas has about $10 million in cap space entering this offseason, and the 28-year-old Bennett would fit into the team's timeline as 14 of their top 15 point producers from 2024/25 are 27 or older.
Next in the betting are the Boston Bruins (+1600), who could really use a difference-maker after a disappointing season. Boston finished 28th out of 32 teams in goals scored with 222, and the fact that Bennett has scored 20+ in three of the previous four seasons means he could appeal to the Bruins front office.
The Los Angeles Kings (+2000) are fifth in the odds. They have a healthy $25 million in available cap space. With 2024/25 leading point scorer Adrian Kempe heading for free agency in 2026, the team may want to go all-in with a big signing for this season while also looking toward the future in case Kempe leaves.
The next group of teams that could land Bennett includes the Ottawa Senators (+2500), Colorado Avalanche (+2800), New York Rangers (+2800), New Jersey Devils (+3000), and Vancouver Canucks (+3000).
