The Denver Broncos released QB Russell Wilson on Tuesday, starting mass speculation for where the 9x Pro Bowler will play next
The Pittsburgh Steelers have emerged as the favorites to land Wilson, who spent his past two seasons in Denver following 10 years with the Seattle Seahawks. The Broncos went 11-19 in Wilson’s 30 starts for the team and missed the playoffs both years.
Let’s take a look at the leading candidates to land the championship-winning quarterback.

The Steelers’ quarterback situation is about as murky as it gets heading into 2024.
2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett was the bonafide starter until getting injured in Week 13. Back-up Mitchell Trubisky then started in Weeks 14 and 15. Third-stringer Mason Rudolph took over from there and started in Pittsburgh’s Wild Card loss to the Bills, even with Pickett cleared to go.
If Pittsburgh is truly moving on from Pickett, Wilson would be a very solid replacement.
Another team in quarterback limbo, Mark Davis and company must figure out who the starting quarterback will be in 2024.
The Jimmy Garoppolo era is over and Aidan O’Connell didn’t exactly dazzle in his 10 starts, despite leading the team to a 5-5 record as a rookie.
Wilson would be a surefire improvement over anything Vegas currently has on the roster.
Probably the most-mentioned team this NFL offseason, the Falcons have their new head coach in Raheem Morris, and now they must find a starting QB. It does not look like Desmond Ridder or Taylor Heinicke will be considered for the starting job under new brass.
Atlanta is also rumored to be interested in Kirk Cousins and Justin Fields, but it’s anyone’s guess at this point.
Should the Vikings move on from Kirk Cousins, they will need the plug a big hole left by one of the most consistent, underappreciated QBs in the modern NFL.
Wilson fits that mold as a veteran leader, and has been underappreciated throughout his career as well. But several dominoes need to fall in order for this move to be made possible.
