We have covered everything you need to know as Rolly Romero looks to defend his WBA world super-lightweight title against Isaac Cruz in Las Vegas on March 30.
Romero makes his first defense of the WBA world super-lightweight title, which he won when beating Ismael Barroso for the vacant strap last May, against rock-solid Mexican fighter Cruz.
Romero, based out of Las Vegas, has made the move up from lightweight to the 140lbs division after being stopped by Gervonta Davis two years ago and Cruz appears to be another seriously tough challenge for the 28-year-old.
Cruz was also beaten by Davis back in 2021, but that bout went to the judges' scorecards and was a closely-fought contest.
The Mexican was involved in an exciting clash when facing Giovanni Cabrera at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas last year and fight fans could be in for another Cruz classic in Nevada.
The bout is set to take place on Saturday, March 30, 2024.
With the event set to begin at 8 PM ET / 12 AM UK time, ring walks for Roland Romero vs. Isaac Cruz are expected to take place at 10 PM ET / 3 AM UK.
The exact schedule of events will depend on the duration of the undercard matches.
The bout will take place at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena. The Stadium has a 20,000-seat capacity and it has played host to some huge fight nights.
Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin and Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Conor McGregor both took place at the Vegas venue and the arena is also home to the Vegas Golden Knights in the NHL.
Rock stars such as U2 have also wowed the crowds on South Las Vegas Boulevard.
This is the inaugural PBC pay-per-view event available on Prime Video. The bout will be available to stream via Amazon Prime for those with a membership.
Romero was the WBA interim world lightweight champion before suffering the first defeat of his career against Davis two years ago. He has returned in the 140lbs division and he captured the WBA world super-lightweight strap against Barroso last time out.
The title will be on the line in Las Vegas, as Cruz gets a second crack at landing an elite-level belt.
The Mexico City man failed in his challenge of Davis in 2021, but the 25-year-old has held the WBC Silver and WBO Latino lightweight titles.
Romero has a record of 15-1 with 13 of those victories coming by stoppage.
The Nevada native made the headlines after a succession of powerful knockout victories and the 28-year-old got his first world title shot after only 15 professional contests. That came against Davis in Brooklyn two years ago and it ended in a sixth-round defeat for Romero.
Rolly returned in the super-lightweight division and captured the WBA world title when beating Barroso for the vacant strap last year.
There aren’t many miles on the Romero clock, and there is certainly potential for improvement, but as things stand, the Las Vegas man appears to be the weakest of the current 140lbs champions which include Devin Haney, Subriel Matias, and Teofimo Lopez.
Cruz has a professional record of 25-2-1 (17 KOs). The latest of those defeats came against the top-level Davis in 2021. The other two occasions that the Mexican has failed to claim victory came way back in 2016 and 2017.
The 25-year-old has bags of experience at a young age and Pitbull appears to be on the rise.
The Mexico City man defeated Giovanni Cabrera in an ill-tempered affair last time out and prior to that Cruz had seen off solid opponents in Eduardo Ramirez and Yuriorkis Gamboa.
Even in defeat to Tank, the Mexican put in a solid performance, and looks to have improved considerably since that 2021 loss.
Romero is the champion, but the odds indicate the WBA world super-lightweight belt will be heading back to Mexico with Cruz.
Rolly is listed as a +215 underdog to beat Pitbull in Las Vegas, while the Mexican champion is the -280 favorite to get his hand raised at the T-Mobile Arena.
The WBA world super-lightweight title contest between Romero and Cruz is the co-feature contest on the Thurman vs. Fundora Las Vegas card.
