In just under a week's time, we will have the pleasure of watching a long-awaited bout in the making, the homecoming of Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez as he takes on Rober Barrera in a Bantamweight bout scheduled for 10 rounds.

This fight is scheduled to take place on Friday, July 12, and will be held at the Polideportivo Alexis Arguello in Managua, Nicaragua.

Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez Profile

Born in Managua, Nicaragua, Gonzalez made his professional boxing debut in July of 2005, beating Ramon Urbina by knockout. After starting his career 8-0, Gonzalez earned his first title shot in October of 2006, where he won the WBA Fedecentro and Nicaraguan Light Flyweight titles.

He continued to win over the next year, claiming the WBA Fedelatin Minimumweight title in May of 2007, the WBA Minimumweight title in September of 2008, and the vacant WBA Interim Light Flyweight title in October of 2010. 

Over the next four years, Gonzalez remained undefeated, earning himself another title fight in September of 2014, where he won the WBC and The Ring Flyweight titles. Two years later, he won the WBC Super Flyweight title in September of 2016. 

By this time, Gonzalez was 46-0 as a professional boxer with numerous titles to his name. However, he finally suffered his first loss in March of 2017 against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, losing his WBC Super Flyweight title. Gonzalez challenged again for this title in September of 2017, but lost again to the same opponent. 

Despite the two setbacks, Gonzalez bounced back with four wins in a row, winning the WBA (Super) Super Flyweight title in the process. This title was short lived though, as he lost to Juan Francisco Estrada in March of 2021.

His most recent fight was in December of 2022, another loss against Juan Francisco Estrada. Following this loss, Gonzalez stepped away from boxing before recently committing to a homecoming bout.

During the course of his career, Gonzalez has won 41 times by knockout and 10 times by decision. As for his losses, he has one by knockout and three by decision, giving him an overall record of 51-4.

Rober Barrera Profile

Barrera was born on October 15, 1992 in San Jose de Canalete, Colombia. He turned professional in July of 2013 when he beat Ney Brochero by knockout. After starting his boxing career 9-0, Barrera earned his first title fight in October of 2014, where he won the WBA Fedelatin Light Flyweight title. 

It was not until October of 2015 that Barrera suffered his first professional loss, losing his WBA Fedelatin Light Flyweight title in the process. However, he quickly bounced back in January of 2016, winning the WBA Fedebol Light Flyweight title in the process. 

After winning another five fights in a row, Barrera lost in July of 2017, failing to win the WBA World Light Flyweight title. He then won the vacant WBA Fedebol Flyweight title in July of 2019, but failed to win the WBA Interim World Flyweight title in February of 2020, the WBC Silver Flyweight title in November of 2021, and the WBC Continental Americas Super Flyweight title in July of 2022.  

Over the course of his career, Barrera has won 17 times by knockout and 10 times by decision. He has lost twice by knockout and three times by decision, giving him a professional record of 27-5.
