Picks, predictions and odds for Rolly Romero vs. Manuel Jaimes from Las Vegas this Saturday, September 14.
Rolando Romero meets Manuel Jaimes on the Canelo vs. Berlanga undercard, with the former WBA super-lightweight champion in desperate need of a victory.
With two stoppage losses in his last three fights - against, admittedly, stellar opposition - Romero (-250 ML) has shown not only defensive vulnerabilities but also questionable punch resistance. He was hurt early and badly beaten up by Isaac Cruz in March and Jaimes (+200) does carry some pop, with 11 stoppages in his 16 wins so far.
Jaimes is, however, the naturally smaller man and has never boxed at this level before. In fact, this is the first time he has been scheduled for a ten round bout. This is a match set-up for Romero to win and look good; but that doesn’t necessarily mean he will.
There are huge question marks around both fighters, but the one certainty is they both possess very respectable punching power. In Romero, we have a fighter that is vulnerable and in Jaimes, one that is naturally smaller and untested.
I don’t think this one sees the final bell either way - which is my strong play for the fight - but at odds of +700, I think it’s worth a small bet on the underdog Jaimes to win by KO/TKO at +700.
