Five-time Club World Cup champions Real Madrid begin their title defense on Wednesday when they open Group H play against Al Hilal.

Fans will get a first glimpse of Real Madrid under new manager Xabi Alonso in this game, who could include new signing Trent Alexander-Arnold in his first starting XI in charge.

Los Blancos finished runners-up in La Liga and were knocked out in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal this past season, so Europe’s most successful club team will be eager to re-claim the trophy in a tournament they have dominated.

No team has won more Club World Cup titles than Real Madrid, who have five.

Their opponents Al Hilal have made international headlines in recent years, luring well-known players such as Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves, Joao Cancelo and Aleksandar Mitrovic to Saudi Arabia and the Saudi Pro League. Neymar joined the club in August 2023 but departed for childhood club Santos FC in January 2025.

Most recently, Al Hilal hired former Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi following the 2025 UEFA Champions League final, and Wednesday’s match against Real Madrid will be his first in charge.
