She lost her following fight to Tori Adams, but quickly bounced back to two consecutive wins against Sarah Moras and Raquel Canuto. Following those wins, Pennington then lost two fights in a row to Cat Zingano and Leslie Smith.

This win sparked her current five-fight win streak from June of 2020 to January of 2023, a streak she put on the line in her first UFC title bout at UFC 297. She won that fight for the vacant Bantamweight title, beating Mayra Bueno Silva via unanimous decision.
