The Phoenix Suns are back with a new coach and improved depth for the 2024/25 NBA season after ending the 2023/24 campaign with a disappointing first-round playoff loss.
Mike Budenholzer, who led the Milwaukee Bucks to the 2020/21 NBA Championship, replaces Frank Vogel as the Suns head coach. Budenholzer will be tasked with getting the most out of Phoenix's big three.
Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal form one of the most talented trios in the NBA, but a lack of depth and distribution hurt the team last season.
General manager James Jones signed point guard Tyus Jones, who is coming off a season where he dished out a career-high 7.3 assists, to give the team a floor general instead of shoehorning Devin Booker into that role as they did last season.
The Suns had three players who shot over 40 percent from three on four or more attempts per game: Durant, Beal, and three-point percentage league leader Grayson Allen. Phoenix finished fifth in team three-point percentage (38.2) and scored the 10th-most points per game (116.2).
Unsurprisingly considering the team's roster construction, Phoenix struggled when it came to interior defense and rebounding. Jusuf Nurkic, the team's only reliable center last season, returns and will likely be backed up by veteran Mason Plumlee or rookie Oso Ighodaro.
With a more well-rounded team, can Budenholzer get the Suns to put it all together and make a deep playoff run?
