There are only a few 2025 MLB Opening Day matchups between division rivals, and one features a pair of National League East teams that project to finish at opposite ends of the standings: the Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Nationals.
While the Phillies are expected to be championship contenders this season, they're on a downward trend. They lost in the 2022 World Series, the 2023 NLCS, and the 2024 NLDS in the past three seasons, which is exactly what happened in the three seasons after the team won the 2008 World Series. But, this group doesn't have a title and will be motivated to change that this year.
Washington, on the other hand, is in the midst of a rebuild. There's reason to be positive in the nation's capital, as the young trio of Dylan Crews, James Wood and CJ Abrams will all start the season in the Majors. They're seeing the benefits of trading Juan Soto to the San Diego Padres in 2022, as Abrams, Wood, and Opening Day starter MacKenzie Gore were all acquired in that deal.
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals will be broadcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia+ and NBC 10 in the greater Philadelphia area and on MASN in the greater Washington, DC area.
Fans outside those markets can stream the game on MLB.TV, which requires a subscription.
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals is scheduled to start at 4:05 PM ET/3:05 PM CT on Thursday, March 27th from Nationals Park in Washington, DC.
