Philadelphia 76ers Odds: +3000 to win NBA Championship after 2-12 start

The Philadelphia 76ers entered the 2024/25 NBA season at +800 to win the NBA Championship, but their odds have grown much longer amid a 2-12 start.

Philly had its big three of Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey on the floor together for the first time against a Memphis Grizzlies team that was without Ja Morant, Zach Edey and Marcus Smart on Wednesday night, but the Grizzlies won 117-111.

As a result, the Sixers are now +3000 to win the NBA Championship.

Despite the awful start, oddsmakers still see Philly as more likely to make the playoffs (-290) than miss the playoffs (+220). But the team has dug itself a big hole, and not much has gone right.

For starters, George suffered a hyperextended left knee in preseason that kept him out of the first five games of the season, and he suffered the same injury to the same leg on Wednesday.

Embiid missed the first nine games of the season due to injury management and a suspension, and on the court, he is averaging career-lows in points, rebounds and blocks.

Plus, the 2022/23 NBA MVP was reportedly called out by Maxey in a team meeting after the Sixers lost to the Miami Heat.

Maxey also has missed almost half the team's games due to a hamstring injury, and when he has played, he's shot below 40 percent from the field.

Rookie guard Jared McCain has been the team's main bright spot with 15.6 points per game on 41.0 percent three-point shooting, which does not reflect well on the team's three players who will make over $30 million this season.

In terms of team stats, the Sixers rank last in offensive rating, second-to-last in points scored per game, second-to-last in three-point percentage and last in field goal percentage. They're also in the bottom ten in field goal percentage allowed, assists per game and offensive rebounding percentage.

With only four teams in the Eastern Conference over .500, the 76ers have a chance to turn things around, but that will only happen if their stars stay healthy and hit their shots.
