The second Major of the golf season takes place this week when the PGA Major Championship starts at Aronimink in Pennsylvania on Thursday.
Defending champion Scottie Scheffler is understandably favourite after he won the title by a five-shot margin 12 months ago, but this is the first time the course has hosted a top-tier men’s tournament since 2018, when former US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley won the BMW Championship.
Rory McIlroy will also be keen to enjoy another success after he won his second consecutive Green Jacket at last month’s Masters and he will be looking to get his hands on the trophy for the third time.
Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau will lead the charge from the LIV Tour in what should be a tournament to savour.
It is little surprise to see Scheffler and McIlroy at the top of the market for a Major tournament, but the one player who could give them the most to think about is Cameron Young.
The last ten winners of the PGA Major Championship have all been American and a triumph in one of the game's big four looks the next logical step for a man who has scaled the heights of the game since he broke his PGA Tour duck at the Wyndham Championship in August.
That triumph was well overdue and he has stormed to number three in the world rankings having posted an impressive tally of ten top-ten finishes since then.
That run has included a victory in the prestigious Players Championship and at the Cadillac Champions at Doral two weeks ago when he held off Scheffler for a six-shot success.
His disappointing closing 74 took him out of contention at last week’s Truist Championship, but his third at Augusta will have whetted his appetite for Major success and on a course where his driving ability can come to the fore, he can fulfil that dream this week.
Alongside Bradley, Justin Rose is the only other course winner in the field following his success at the AT&T National in 2010, and the 45-year-old Englishman is still a factor at the highest level.
The 2013 US Open champion was third at The Masters having fallen to McIlroy in a playoff the previous year and he was also second at The Open when Xander Schauffele got his hands on the Claret Jug in 2024.
Rose missed the cut at last year's PGA, but he finished no lower than 13th in his previous five attempts to win the Major and his hunger to win tournaments was demonstrated earlier this year when he stormed to glory at the Farmers Insurance Open.
Don't be surprised if, once again, he features prominently on the leaderboard in Pennsylvania this week.
With the last ten PGA champions all being home players, there is bound to be a strong American challenge this week and one player who may have been overlooked is the improving Chris Gotterup.
The Maryland native was a surprise winner of the Scottish Open last year, a tournament that always attracts a strong field and he demonstrated that triumph was no fluke when he came in third at The Open, which was won by Scheffler at Royal Portrush the following week.
Those performances plainly had a strong impact on Gotterup's confidence as he has been a player to follow this year, starting with a January triumph at the Sony Open and then following that with a win at the Phoenix Open.
His only other PGA Major Championship experience was a missed cut at Valhalla two years ago, but not only was that at a different course, but he is plainly a much stronger competitor than he was on that occasion.
He could prove to be a challenger this week on a course where he strong ability off the tee could prove to be a telling factor.
