The Pittsburgh Pirates' flamethrowing ace and reigning National League Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes takes to the mound for his first career Opening Day start on Thursday, March 27th.
The Pirates visit the Miami Marlins for their first series of the season, and Skenes will look to start building his Cy Young Award resume from the first pitch.
After his MLB call-up in May 2024, Skenes needed no time to adjust. In 23 starts, his 5.9 pitcher bWAR rating was fifth-best in the league.
Among pitchers to face at least 500 batters last season, Skenes led MLB in ERA (1.96), OPS allowed (.552), expected weighted on-base average allowed (.248) and average four-seam fastball speed (98.8 MPH). He also finished in the top 10 in barrel percentage allowed (5.2 percent) and strikeout rate (33.1 percent).
Ahead of his first start of the 2025 season, let's take a look at Skenes' player props, lines and odds for Opening Day against the Marlins.
