We have covered everything you need to know as Vergil Ortiz Jr goes up against Thomas Dulorme in a 10-round junior middleweight contest in Fresno, California, on April 27.
Undefeated Ortiz Jr is on the verge of a world title fight and is back in action after his stunning first round knockout against Fredrick Lawson in Las Vegas in January.
Former world title challenger Dulorme has not fought since July 2022 when the Puerto Rican star stopped Abrahan Peralta inside three rounds in the Dominican Republic.
The bout is set to take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
The Ortiz Jr. vs. Dulorme bout is a co-main event, alongside Jose Ramirez vs. Rances Barthelemy, but is scheduled to take place before the Ramirez-Barthelemy showdown.
The evening’s action is set to begin with the undercard bouts at 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT / 1 AM UK BST.
Ring walks for Ortiz Jr. vs. Dulorme are not expected to take place until at 10 PM ET / 7 PM PT / 3 AM UK time at the earliest.
The exact schedule of events will depend on the duration of the undercard matches.
The bout will take place at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.
The Stadium has a 16,182 capacity for boxing and is well used to staging big boxing occasions.
The venue has hosted a few world title bouts, including Artur Beterbiev vs Enrico Kolling for the IBF light heavyweight belt in 2017, and Jose Ramirez’s WBC super lightweight contest with Antonio Orozco the following year.
Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Thomas Dulorme will be broadcast worldwide in over 200 countries across the globe by streaming provider DAZN.
Ortiz Jr. is the current WBO International welterweight title holder but this is classified as a junior middleweight bout with no titles on the line on the night.
The fearsome Ortiz Jr. has an unblemished winning record from his 20 professional fights so far, with all of his victories coming via either TKO or KO.
He excelled as a junior fighter and amateur, with success at the 2013 Junior Olympics and was a seven-time national amateur champion.
The American, who was named The Ring magazine Prospect of the Year in 2019, has held the WBO International welterweight title since 2021, a belt he gained after a seventh-round success over Maurice Hooker in Texas.
Amongst the 26-year-old’s other notable victories are a sixth-round knockout against Antonio Orozco in August 2019, which saw him win the then-vacant WBA Gold welterweight title, while he also caught the eye by beating Samuel Vargas in July 2020, and Egidijus Kavaliauskas in August 2021, either side of his statement win over Hooker.
He displayed his power and poise on his most recent outing when defeating Lawson inside three minutes in January and should get a world title shot if he sees off Dulorme.
Dulorme’s record reads 26 wins, six defeats and one draw from his 33 pro fights, with 17 of his victories coming by KO.
After 11 straight wins early in his career, the 34-year-old suffered his first loss against Luis Carlos Abregu in October 2012, but he quickly bounced back by seeing off Eddie Brooks and Ben Ankrah.
Four more successes in the ring duly followed as he gained minor straps, such as the WBC-NABF light welterweight title and the WBO-NABO light welterweight title.
However, he came up short against Terence Crawford in their scrap for the WBO light welterweight title in April 2015, and his career stalled further with defeats to Yordenis Ugas, Jamal James, Eimantas Stanionis and Jaron Ennis.
Dulorme did get back to winning ways by overcoming Peralta but it’s nearly two years since that success and, as he approaches the veteran stage of his career, Dulorme looks set to be up against it when he faces the in-form Ortiz Jr.
