Week 2 of the 2026 college football season is headlined in part by a showdown between the Oklahoma Sooners and Michigan Wolverines on Saturday afternoon.
This SEC vs. Big Ten showdown will attract a ton of eyeballs, especially after what transpired with Michigan last weekend. The Wolverines controversially beat Western Michigan 13-12 with a Hail Mary on the final play of the game. Meanwhile, Oklahoma opened with a 51-0 romp over UTEP.
With the game set for 12pm ET on FOX, it’s time to break down the odds and discuss the best bets to make.
Oklahoma vs. Michigan betting picks and predictions
Oklahoma -5.5 (-110)
It requires quite an effort to fall from No. 16 in the nation to entirely unranked after winning a game, but such was Michigan’s fate in the AP poll earlier this week.
The Wolverines were four-touchdown favorites over Western Michigan this past Saturday but needed a gift from the officials to “win” by one point. Their initial Hail Mary attempt fell incomplete, but it was eventually ruled – somehow – that a defensive player who had stepped out of bounds touched the ball before the clock hit zero. That gave the home team a second life and it converted with a 47-yard bomb from Bryce Underwood to JJ Buchanan.
Aside from the final play (or, more accurately, the play after the final play), it was a disastrous game for Underwood. Per Pro Football Focus, the sophomore recorded the worst rating of his young career. He had five turnover-worthy plays, which would be a horrible number even against a Power 4 opponent. Against a MAC foe, it is simply unacceptable.
Prior to the Hail Mary, Underwood was 11-of-21 for 123 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. It should also be noted that the Detroit native did not get much help, as his receivers dropped six passes.
Oklahoma, on the other hand, impressed in its first outing of the season. There is no denying that UTEP stinks, but no team has to apologize for winning 51-0. The Sooners led 21-0 less than 14 minutes into the game and built a 44-0 advantage with more than three minutes remaining in the third quarter. Needless to say, it could have been a lot worse than 51-0.
Even in the Big House of Ann Arbor, OU should be the superior team – and with room to spare – on Saturday.
Under 43.5 (-110)
This is not a huge number, but it shouldn’t be after what we witnessed from Michigan’s offense in Week 1. Head coach Kyle Whittingham’s debut as head coach of the Wolverines was nothing short of an abject failure on the offensive side of the ball.
Now his program has to face a far more dangerous and physically aggressive defense in Oklahoma. The Sooners, of course, won’t look anything like the Broncos – who handled Underwood and company just fine.
Seven of OU’s top 10 defenders in snap count have returned from last year’s top-10 unit that held Michigan to only 13 points on just 288 total yards when these two teams tangled in Norman on September 6 of last year. That includes two of the Sooners’ three leaders in sacks and three of their top six tacklers.
Oklahoma won that 2025 head-to-head showdown 24-13. All things considered, another relatively low-scoring affair may be on the cards and the under looks like the way to go.
Lloyd Avant Over 49.5 rushing yards (-110)
Oklahoma has every reason to lead this game from start to finish. If that’s what the visitors end up doing, they will be inclined to keep the ball on the ground.
That would lead to plenty of opportunities for Avant, who appears to have established himself as the top running back in Norman. He got 15 carries last week, parlaying them into 79 yards and a touchdown at UTEP’s expense.
No other ball-carrier rushed more than seven times in the season opener, although Xavier Robinson had seven attempts for 30 yards.
