The Oklahoma City Thunder earned the No. 1 seed in the NBA Western Conference last season, and they enter the 2024/25 campaign as the second favorites to win the championship this season.
OKC lost in six games to the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Semifinals. But the playoff experience should prove valuable for this young team, especially after the front office made a couple of key additions.
This offseason, general manager Sam Presti acquired guard Alex Caruso and center Isaiah Hartenstein, who both project to improve the Thunder in areas where they struggled last season.
They managed to keep their core together while getting those players, as they signed Hartenstein as a free agent and traded guard Josh Giddey - who had fallen out of the rotation at times since he didn't shoot well enough to space the floor - for Caruso.
That means Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luguentz Dort, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Jaylin Williams, Cason Wallace, and Aaron Wiggins are all still on the team.
OKC led the NBA in three-point percentage (38.9 percent), steals per game (8.5) and blocks per game (6.6) last season. While they finished second to last in offensive rebounds per game (8.8), Hartenstein's arrival should help fix that issue.
Caruso, who finished 10th in Defensive Player of the Year voting and made the 2023/24 All-Defensive second team, provides another stellar perimeter defender and, as a 38 percent career three-point shooter, will space the floor much better than Giddey.
