11-seeds North Carolina and San Diego State will face off in the First Four on Tuesday, March 18.
The winner of this play-in game will then take on No. 6 Ole Miss in the South region round of 64.
The Tar Heels were controversially included in the field of 68, beating out bubble teams Indiana, West Virginia and Boise State. Hubert Davis’ team, a usual staple in March Madness, nearly missed the tournament after a subpar season in which they finished 22-13.
San Diego State has become a mainstay in March themselves, earning a fifth-straight tournament bid after a 21-9 regular season. Brian Dutcher has led SDSU to the Sweet 16 or further in each of the last two tournaments, including to the national championship in 2023, where they lost to UConn.
