North Carolina Men's Basketball: +100 to Make Men's College Basketball Tournament Field of 68

The North Carolina Tar Heels (19-11, 12-6 ACC) have been unranked since early December, and with two games remaining in their regular season, time is running out for them to make their case for a spot in the Men's College Basketball Tournament.

The Tar Heels, coached by Hubert Davis, got off to a 4-1 start with the loss coming against then-No. 1 Kansas, but three consecutive defeats in late November - against then-No. 4 Auburn, then-unranked Michigan State, and then-No. 10 Alabama - started the team's downward slide.

Throughout the season, North Carolina is 1-6 against ranked teams. Its one win against a top-25 team was by two points at a neutral site against then-No. 18 UCLA in late December.

As a result, the Tar Heels are +100 to make the Men's College Basketball Tournament's field of 68 with two games remaining on their regular season schedule. Fans who don't think they'll make the tournament can get the Tar Heels at -130 to miss out.

North Carolina had been the preseason No. 9 team, but poor three-point shooting and a negative turnover margin have hurt the team.

Plus, the regression of preseason Wooden Award favorite RJ Davis has hurt the team. Davis leads the team with 17.2 points per game, but he is shooting at the worst efficiency since his freshman year at 39.7 percent overall and 31.8 percent from three.

The Tar Heels play at the nation's 42nd-fastest pace with 71.2 possessions per game on average, which is a big reason why they rank in the top 25 in team points per game (81.8, 24th). But that emphasis on pushing the pace may hurt their defense as they allow they rank in the bottom half of DI teams in defensive rating (106.4) and points allowed per game (76.5).

With a visit to unranked Virginia Tech on tap for Tuesday night before a home game against main rivals No. 2 Duke being the only two games left on the schedule before the all-important ACC tournament, the Tar Heels need to pick things up fast.
