Nick Suzuki's Ironman streak ends at 546 consecutive regular-season games after suffering an injury against the San Jose Sharks.
The Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki suffered an apparent left hand injury on October 20th against the San Jose Sharks after blocking a shot.
Prior to the Injury Suzuki had scored and assisted in the game to help the Canadiens to a 3-1 lead, but the Habs ended up conceding three goals in the 3rd period and overtime to lose 4-3.
The injury is serious enough that Suzuki was forced to end his ironman streak of playing 546 consecutive regular-season games for the Canadiens since entering the NHL in 2019-20. Suzuki has since missed two games against the Chicago Blackhawks and Winnipeg Jets, and will likely spend more time on the bench while his injury heals.
In nine games played this year, Suzuki scored five goals and provided 11 assists prior to the injury. Now watching from behind the glass, Suzuki's spot on the first line has been taken by 23-year-old center, Oliver Kapanen.
Officially listed as an upper-body injury, Suzuki's injury is expected to keep him off the ice for 2-4 weeks.
With the assumption that Suzuki injured his hand, he is not likely to return to the lineup until he is able to shoot and stick-handle without addition pain.
With a timeline of 2-4 weeks, Suzuki is expected to be out until early-to-mid November.
The soonest he could return is potential Saturday, November 7th, when the Habs travel to Toronto to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
A clearer timeline will be revealed when more information is released surrounding Suzuki's injury.
