The San Francisco 49ers are leaning towards placing Nick Bosa on injured reserve after the star pass-rusher suffered a calf injury during practice on Thursday.
Bosa, who suffered a torn ACL last year, has been focused on managing his knee throughout the early part of the season, but the calf has now become his main concern.
Despite an offseason filled with Brandon Aiyuk drama and training camp injuries, the Niners are off to a hot start in the 2026 season. Brock Purdy and the offense is clicking on all cylinders, while the defense has been stout as usual.
They have dominated both games so far, knocking off the Rams 27-7 in Australia, then shellacking the Dolphins 35-13 last week.
Losing Bosa for multiple weeks, however, would be a big hurdle for the team to overcome. Young pass-rushers Mykel Williams and Mikail Kamara are already on the IR/PUP list, meaning guys like Romello Height and Keion White will have to step up.
Ian Rapoport reported that Bosa is "expected to miss a few weeks," and that the Niners are leaning towards putting him on the IR. A minimum stint on the injured reserve is four weeks, so it can be assumed that he'll miss around a month.
This would open the window for a return on Oct. 25 against the Falcons in Atlanta. Bosa would miss the Cardinals game in Week 3, Broncos in Week 4, Seahawks in Week 5, and Commanders in Week 6.
