Thursday night in the NHL brings us a big-time Western Conference matchup between the Winnipeg Jets and Vegas Golden Knights.
Part of a busy nine-game slate, this could be one of the best battles we see in the league. Combined, they have accumulated 96 wins in 149 games and lead their respective divisions.
Even with the success they have both seen this season, points are still majorly important, as neither has officially claimed the top spot in the conference or their division.
This will be a great NHL battle between two elite teams and should be a great test for both as the playoffs approach.
To get you set for the action, here are our Jets vs. Golden Knights predictions.
Vegas is on pace to have three 30+ goal scorers, and a total of six 20+ goal players. Their lineup has threats throughout and they have numerous players who are some of the game's strongest offensive minds.
Even against a defensively-sound Jets team with one of the best goaltenders in the league, I like Vegas' chances to find the back of the net multiple times as they usually do.
On the other hand, Winnipeg may not have the long list of goal scorers that Vegas has, but their top weapons are truly dominant.
Vegas has not been a complete brick wall defensively, so Winnipeg should have no issues finding multiple goals.
Neither team’s offense has been stellar as of late, as the Golden Knights have scored 19 goals in their last five games and the Jets have scored 14 goals in their last five games.
However, I think the importance of this matchup will spark both teams to increase efforts in this department.
Both teams are within the top five in goals per game (3.4 goals per game each). I see this being a back-and-forth effort, bringing us a boatload of offense as a result.
Kyle Connor has been one of the best goal scorers in the NHL for years, not only in Winnipeg, but the entire NHL.
He currently has 38 goals which leads the team and has him tied for fourth in scoring across the league.
This is a very important matchup that Connor will need to be a major force in. Winnipeg leans on him consistently as he averages over 20 minutes per game.
He has taken the eighth-most shots in the league this season (242) and will need to fire away against a very tough Golden Knights opponent.
This is especially true if the Jets find themselves trailing.
Mark Stone is a prolific player in the NHL and has 19 goals and 66 points in 60 games. He is sixth on the team in goals, but has missed 14 games this season.
Regardless, he is heavily relied on by Vegas
Stone has just one goal in the last five games. The overall points have continued to pile up, but Stone could be due for another tally.
As Winnipeg tries to lock down Vegas’ big-time scorers like Jack Eichel, Tomas Hertl, and Pavel Dorofeyev, Stone may find himself ample opportunity to find offense.
He will need a big effort against a strong opponent, and I see him finding the back of the net.
