Washington Capitals vs. Montreal Canadiens Game 4: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The Washington Capitals and Montreal Canadiens continue their electric Round One battle with Game Four at the Bell Centre. After the Capitals stormed out to a 2-0 series with two wins on home ice, Montreal answered by earning a huge 6-3 win in front of its own passionate crowd.

Now the series sits at 2-1 for Washington, but has gotten even more interesting as both starting goaltenders went down with injury in Game Three. It seems unlikely either of them will play, inserting major drama into the series.

No matter the goaltenders, the task at hand remains the same. If Game Three was any indication on how the rest of the series will go, we are in for a treat in Game Four. To get you set for the action, here are our Capitals vs. Canadiens predictions and betting odds.

Washington Capitals vs. Montreal Canadiens betting picks and predictions

Over 6.0 (-120)

Game 1 and Game 2 gave us very low-scoring and rock solid efforts, with a total of nine goals. However, Game 3 was a complete change, where we saw nine goals in an offensive explosion. It was an intense game where Montreal’s offense finally woke up and scored six goals, while Washington scored their usual amount but could have easily added more.

With each starting goalie likely to be out for this game, this could increase the goal tally even more. Both back-ups are competent enough to take their team to a victory, but their skills are certainly not at the level as their starter. Extreme motivation and effort may not be enough for them in this one.

This game should bring the highest levels of effort and urgency, as it is a pivotal game in the series and that is expected to translate into a lot of shots and consistent pressure in each zone. I expect this to bring us lots of goals.

Juraj Slafkovsky over 1.5 shots (-200)

One of the storylines in this series has been the play of 21-year-old Juraj Slafkovsky for the Montreal Canadiens. The 2022 first overall pick has not necessarily turned heads in his first three seasons in the league, but during these playoffs so far, we may be looking at a breakout.

When looking at his stats, he has only scored one goal in three games, but when watching the games it is clear he has been one of Montreal’s best players on both ends of the puck.

Slafkovsky has been absolutely firing the puck and in three games in the series, he has fired off 14 shots (4.7 per game). These are much higher totals than this player usually generates, but it is clear he is fully energized in his first ever playoff series.

Even if Slafkovsky doesn’t hit 4+ shots, he is till expected to surpass his line of 1.5 shots in a massive game that he will be leaned on in.

Tom Wilson over 0.5 points (-120)

Tom Wilson has also been a main character in this series so far. He has been a complete wrecking ball, running through any Canadiens player he sees, and has chipped in offensively with two assists in three games.

In Game Three, Wilson made headlines for different reasons. He and Montreal forward Josh Anderson were going at it all game, which even resulted in a scuffle inside Washington’s bench at the end of the second period. Anderson got the last laugh with Montreal winning, and it also gave Wilson a statline of 12 PIM, just one shot, and his lowest time on ice so far this series (14:41).

Wilson has been in this league long enough and has proven to be enough of a threat to show that Game Four may be huge for him. He will ckean up a sloppy performance from last time out and do what he does best. In an effort to get the Capitals back on the winning side of things, Wilson will be a driving factor and will find himself gathering a point.
