The Winnipeg Jets host the Vegas Golden Knights for what should be a great matchup between two teams who are at the top of their respective divisions.
The Jets have 21 wins in 30 games, while the Golden Knights have won 18 of their 28 games. Winnipeg leads the Western Conference with 111 goals scored, while Vegas is third with 99 goals so far.
After an extremely strong start, Winnipeg began to falter a bit, but they are now back in dominant form. They have won three of their past four games, including a blowout 8-1 win against a surging Boston Bruins team.
This has been a reminder to themselves and the league that Winnipeg is an extreme threat.
Vegas is also a threat and are highly talented, but they have shown some more inconsistency throughout the season. More specifically, their inconsistency has been on the defensive end of the ice, which is a factor that Winnipeg could exploit here.
Winnipeg will also be looking for revenge after the Golden Knights squeaked out a 4-3 victory against them just two weeks ago.
They play excellent at home, and know this is a game they need to be ready for. Because of that, back the home team to win straight-up at -125.
Vegas has found itself in a lot of chaotic games this season. Still, the Golden Knights have the sixth-best goals per game average (3.50) and the ninth-best goals against average (2.89).
Winnipeg has been even better offensively, posting the NHL’s fifth-best goal scoring average (3.70).
Their goaltending and defense is some of the best in the entire league, but when playing a team like Vegas, it is likely they will see a few goals go by. Vegas is second in the NHL in goals scored above expected goals (xG) created, scoring 70 goals on 58.17 xG, per MoneyPuck.
These teams are filled with talent, and no matter who wins there should be plenty of back and forth, offensive action.
Connor Hellebuyck is easily one of, if not the best goaltender in the entire NHL but he will have a tough challenge ahead of him against a hungry Vegas team, especially if they are playing urgently from behind.
Winnipeg currently has given up the seventh-most shots in the league (875), so while their goal prevention numbers have been great, they are still giving up lots of shots. It could be a busy night for the goaltender.
