On a loaded 11-game slate, Utah vs Vegas has the makings of one of the best matchups. Utah just snapped a four-game winless streak and will look to string a couple of wins together, while Vegas is 7-3-1 to be good for third in the West.
This is less of an indictment of Utah as Vegas would have a favorable matchup against most teams in the NHL. They just plain look that good so far this season.
Meanwhile, Utah have just beaten Calgary 5-1 to end a four-game losing streak, to record only its second win in eight games. Right now, Vegas is the more reliable play. They have better numbers than Utah in both goals scored and allowed per game, as well as power play percentage.
Of Vegas’ seven wins, they have won by 2+ goals in six of them as part of their 8-3 record against the spread.
It has been a great start for the Golden Knights who have been successful in a tough schedule through 11 games. Until or unless they prove otherwise, Vegas is a great team to ride with right now.
This game has the makings of a high scoring matchup. Vegas has flexed strong goal scoring so far this year and Utah has struggled recently to keep the puck out of the net. This could be one where Utah has to take some chances offensively which would bode well for Dylan Guenther.
Guenther has six goals and 10 points in 11 Utah games played this season. He plays top line, top power play minutes with other talented players. In a game script where Utah is leading, he has a good chance to be involved. In a game script where Utah is trailing, he will likely log more minutes and take some offensive chances to get back in the game.
Multiple game scripts give Guenther a good chance to produce, in addition to the favorable circumstances he finds himself in.
The Golden Knights rank second in the NHL in goals scored per game and the Utah Hockey Club ranks 24th in goals allowed per game. That is a good recipe for offensive production on the Vegas side. That being the case, Jack Eichel getting plus money for a prop, even as a goalscorer, carries decent value.
Eichel has 16 points and is +8 in 11 games played thus far. He logs an average of 19:19 of ice time per game on the team’s top line and top power play. Any given shift, Eichel is on the ice with some combination of Ivan Barbashev, Mark Stone, Tomas Hertl, Shea Theodore, Noah Hanifin, and Alex Pietrangelo.
Vegas has a great chance to run up the score in this one as well and Eichel will be in a prime spot to be a contributor.
