Hockey fans are in for a treat on Saturday as 24 of the NHL’s 32 teams are in action. There are some great matchups which begin at 1PM ET and will go all through the afternoon and evening.
Included on Saturday’s slate is a game between a Flyers team looking to get hot and a Panthers team that is rolling.
There is solid value across today’s 12-game NHL slate and Flyers vs Panthers is no exception. Here is a preview of the Eastern Conference matchup along with some markets to consider.
To no one’s surprise, the Panthers have been one of the best teams in the NHL. They enter this game third in the NHL with 21 points. Florida has won six straight games and eight out of their last 10 as part of a 10-3-1 record early on. During their current six-game winning streak, the Panthers have a +16 goal differential. That is an average win of 2.67 goals.
The Panthers have not done this damage against weak opponents, either. Their win streak opponents have included the Predators, Stars twice, Sabres, Islanders, and Rangers. Florida is bullying good teams.
Philadelphia looks to be the weakest opponent Florida will have had, arguably this season. As long as the Panthers don’t completely mail it in, they are in a good spot to maintain this torrid pace.
The Panthers’ success is due in part to their NHL fifth ranked goals scored per game. The Flyers will need every ounce they can get from their defensive stalwarts like Travis Sanheim if they are going to stay in the game. Tough start aside, Sanheim has been solid for Philadelphia.
Sanheim is on Philadelphia’s top defensive pair and top penalty kill unit. He leads the team in ice time for all skaters, logging over 24 minutes per game thus far. Sanheim also leads the Flyers in blocked shots and takeaways. He will get plenty of ice time as the Flyers will lean on Sanheim to help keep the opposition off the board or at least, minimized.
Part of Sanheim’s role in trying to minimize a good Florida team will be putting his body in front of Panthers shots. A +150 number here has plenty of appeal.
After a 57 goal, 94 point season last year and scoring the game-winning goal in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, Sam Reinhart has picked up right where he left off. He leads the Panthers in goals with 11, in points with 22, and in rating at +13. When Reinhart is on the ice, good things happen for the Panthers.
In Florida’s current six-game win streak, Reinhart has contributed six goals and 10 points. He plays on the top line and top power play, garnering ample opportunity to produce game in and game out.
Reinhart is the betting odds favorite of all players in the game to score. Based on both his long term and recent production, it is tough to pass up. Getting plus money for this prop feels like great value.
