There's only one game coming up on New Year's Day but it's a good one, as two Stanley Cup contenders go head to head at the Crypto.com Arena as the Los Angeles Kings host the New Jersey Devils.
The Devils are second in the Eastern Conference standings and listed at odds of +1100 to win the Stanley Cup this season, while the Kings are fourth in the West and +1600 to go all the way.
On the face of it, there is not much to separate these two sides with the Devils second in the East with 51 points from a 24-13-3 record, while the Kings are fourth in the West with 47 points from a 21-10-5 start.
Although New Jersey is seen as the better chance for Stanley Cup glory in the long run, the Money Line odds suggest there is not much between the two for Wednesday night's game with the Devils shortening to -120 favorites after both had been listed at -110.
The odds therefore make the Kings the value play at +100, particularly as they are on home ice and have a fantastic record at the Crypto.com Arena so far this season.
While the Devils have shown a degree of consistency whether at home (12-6-3) or on the road (12-7-0), the Kings have been a much more dominant force at the Crypto.com Arena where they boast a 12-2-1 record, compared to 9-8-4 on the road.
New Jersey go into this game on the back of successive road losses and although there is no disgrace in losing at the Carolina Hurricanes (5-2), a 3-2 defeat at the Anaheim Ducks - who have performed much better on the road themselves so far this season - is far from ideal preparation heading to the Crypto.com Arena.
The Kings have also had two extra days' rest ahead of this clash with New Jersey beaten at Anaheim on New Year's Eve, and the hosts have won each of their last eight games on home ice, beating the likes of Edmonton, Dallas and Winnipeg in that hot streak. The Kings are worth backing as home underdogs.
Stefan Noesen has hit a rich vein of form for the Devils, having registered five points in his last seven games with three goals and two assists.
The 31-year-old is perhaps not the first player that opponents will look out for but he is certainly making an impact for New Jersey this season, lying second in the Devils' goal charts with 16 and fifth in points with 27.
Given his current hot streak, he looks well worth considering to contribute at least a point one way or another at +120, even if it may ultimately be in a losing cause.
Another player who looks a little overpriced to register an impact with at least a point is Warren Foegele, who was signed as an unrestricted free agent in the summer after helping the Edmonton Oilers reach the Stanley Cup finals last season.
The 28-year-old enjoyed a career-best last season with personal highs of 20 goals, 21 assists and 41 points - along with eight points in the playoffs - and he is well on course to surpass those benchmarks with the Kings, having scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists so far this season.
Foegele has scored nine of those points in his last seven games with four goals and five assists and he is appealing to keep his good run going at odds of +145 to score at least a point on Wednesday.
