Sunday night in the NHL provides a Western Conference battle between two of the better teams in the league, Minnesota Wild and Vegas Golden Knights, bringing us what should be must-watch action.
The two met almost one month ago, where Vegas squeaked out a 3-2 road win.
Minnesota will be looking for a road victory for themselves in this fixture. Both teams are playing in the second half of a back-to-back, and will be looking to empty the tank.
Minnesota Wild +1.5 (-170)
The Golden Knights are deemed as heavy favorites in this matchup due to home-ice advantage in a back-to-back situation, but the Wild have been so incredible this season that that may not matter. Both teams are playing in their second straight game, but the Wild are coming off a win.
They have a similar record where they have won roughly 65% of their games, and are both near or at the top of their respective divisions. Minnesota has also been better as of late, going 5-1-0 compared to Vegas, who has gone 3-3-0.
Both teams are strong, and should realize this is a huge test at this point of the season. Even if the Wild aren't able to grab the win, there is decent value in them keeping the game within one goal.
Under 6.0 (-105)
Vegas and Minnesota have been very good offensively this season, but they have been even better on the defensive side of the puck. The Wild are eighth in goals against average (2.56), while the Golden Knights are ninth (2.57). This is mainly due to elite team structure where all players have bought into defensive systems, along with strong goaltending.
With both teams playing in their second game in as many nights, it is tough to expect them to be as sharp or high-flying, especially as these are two franchises are near the top 10 in oldest in the NHL. They play bruising styles of play that aren't heavily offense-driven, and a tight matchup should lock up scoring even further.
First period under 1.5 goals (+100)
These teams are both coming off of Saturday night games, and are now suiting up for their second straight battle. This will also be the tougher of the two games for each team.
Don't expect either team to come flying out of the gates with speed and offense, but rather physicality. I expect both goalies to be on point early on for this big test, as well as each team to be sound defensively.
Both squads are top 10 in goals against average, and until the game settles in, the goals are unlikely to be flying around.
