Hurricanes vs. Flames Predictions, Player Props & Best Bets

Sunday night in the NHL brings an interconference battle between the Calgary Flames and the Carolina Hurricanes at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Both teams have gotten 7+ games under their belt in this fresh NHL season, but things have gone much differently for both.

The defending Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes have started right where they left off, leading the Eastern Conference with a 7-1-1 record. As for Calgary, they are in the thick of a rebuild, and sit dead last in the NHL at 1-6-0.

How will this one shape out? It is time to dive deep into our expert Hurricanes vs. Flames prediction to get the betting edge.

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Calgary Flames betting picks and predictions

Carolina Hurricanes -1.5 (+120)

The 2025/26 Stanley Cup champions in the Carolina Hurricanes have picked up where they left off, with pure dominance. They have not skipped a beat this year, and are currently riding a 7-game winning streak. They come into this one on the second half of a back-to-back, but I don’t see this playing a factor for an established and deep team such as this one.

Carolina possesses an elite offense, scoring 3.78 goals per game, and owning a sixth-best power play at 27%. They’ve been stellar on the other side of the puck as well, allowing just 2.33 goals per game, and owning the second-best penalty kill at 93.5%. There are just no holes on this team, which will give Calgary headaches.

Calgary’s lack of offence is their biggest issue, scoring 2.00 goals per game. Their shooting percentage in particular has mightily struggled at 6.8%. Carolina allows the least amount of shots against per game in the entire NHL (21.67), and this smothering play will limit Calgary who needs all the chances they can get.

This is strictly the tale of two teams, and the game should be completely one-sided. Expect Carolina to get the ball rolling early, and never look back in a multi-goal win.

Under 6.5 (-130)

When all is said and done in this contest, we likely won’t be in for a barn burner. We know Carolina produces one of the top offenses in the entire league, but I wouldn’t necessarily consider them a run-and-gun, chaotic team like other offensive juggernauts.

Carolina enters this game on the second half of a back-to-back, and while this won’t affect their ability to dominate, it may not translate to them having their usual legs. I don’t see them running up the scoreboard, especially where Calgary has much more rest and are desperate for some pride. Keeping the Hurricanes to a modest score could do that for the group.

We know Carolina’s penalty kill has thrived at 93.5%, but Calgary has been respectable as well, killing at an 80% rate. It seems highly likely the Flames will have absolutely minimal, if not no offensive success against this juggernaut, which will be the key in a low-scoring affair.

Nikolaj Ehlers to score (+220)

In 9 games this season, Nikolaj Ehlers has produced 1 goal and 4 assists. This is not typical production from the Danish winger, especially knowing his first goal came less than 24 hours ago.

His first goal of the season on Saturday is a huge one, as it gets the monkey off his back. This should be a weight off his shoulders, and will respark his offensive confidence and production.

Over 765 career games, Ehlers has been a consistent performer, with 252 goals, and 7 seasons with 24+ goals. He also scored 17 goals in 63 career playoff games.

Ehlers’ goalscoring ability has been evident all the way back to his QMJHL days (86 goals in 114 games), and what better chance to score in his second game in a row against a Flames team that mightily struggles to keep the puck out of their net.
