Game 7 between the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs is here, and what could be better? This has been an incredible series with multiple series lead changes, drama on and off the ice, and some great NHL hockey action.

This series ultimately comes down to this game, as the winner will continue on to face the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Finals.

After losing three-straight games, the Maple Leafs returned to the win column in a road victory to keep their season alive and force Game 7. This is yet another opportunity for them to face their Game 7 demons, but they will have a difficult task. 

The defending Stanley Cup Champions in the Panthers may be the road team in this game, but they have proven time and again they are one of the elite.

The game totals within this series have been volatile to say the least. In the first three games, each team scored 12+ goals, totalling 25 combined (8.33 per game). The next three games have given us 11 goals (3.67 per game) including two shutouts. The goal total is set low at 5.0 for Game 7, and I expect that to go over.

Both goalies now have one shutout in the series, and while they are both looking strong right now, I don’t expect another shutout. They have each shown they are susceptible to the elite goal-scoring abilities of the other, which could be said about anyone in the NHL as Florida and Toronto have legit rosters.

These elite squads will be leaving everything on the line in Game 7. We have seen them each explode for offense, and with both of them coming off of recent shutouts, they will not want to repeat that feeling.

This has obviously been a tight series, and I expect this to be an extremely close finish with goals flying back and forth. There are 12 players within this series that are at or near a point per game, mixed with many depth players that stepped up to the plate. I think we will see lots of these players be factors in offensive results.

John Tavares over 2.5 shots (-145)

John Tavares continues to have a strong postseason, which is typically the case for the Toronto forward. He has 7 points in 12 games, but he is second on the team in goals with 5. Not only that, but he is second on the team in shots with 39.

Stats aside, Tavares has proven over the years that you can never speak against his effort, while he has also shown to be a consistent factor in big games. There is no denying that this is the biggest game in the ‘Core Four’ era, so I expect Tavares to help lead the charge.

Tavares is a strong net front presence with a shooter-first mentality. He has surpassed the 2.5 shot mark in three of the past four games (4.0 shots per game in that span), and I expect him to be firing all night again.

We have mentioned the lack of goals lately in the series, and while we may see more than the last three games have given us, I don’t expect to see them early.

As each team looks to get their feet wet in an all-important finish to the series, I think we will see low-risk play, high physicality, and lots of grinding as they both look to set the tone for the game. 

I also expect both goaltenders to be completely dialed in, not giving much to anyone. It will be an exciting start, but one without any goals.
