Edmonton Oilers vs. Florida Panthers Game 2: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The 2024 Stanley Cup Final got started with the Florida Panthers taking down the Edmonton Oilers in shutout fashion on Saturday night to take a 1-0 series lead.

Game 2 remains in South Florida, and to get you set for Monday night’s action, we’re back with our best Oilers vs Panthers predictions.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Florida Panthers Game 2 betting picks and predictions

Over 5.5 goals (-110)

The Panthers won Game 1 with a 3-0 shutout, and they remain on home ice for Monday's Game 2. So, it may seem like all signs point to Florida taking a 2-0 lead, but we feel otherwise. In fact, there is an argument that the Oilers were the better team on Saturday night.

That may sound ridiculous when seeing a 3-0 final score, but the result doesn’t tell the full story. It was clear that the Panthers didn’t play their best hockey, and they were even outshot 14-4 in the first period, despite ending it with a 1-0 lead.

All that to say that if not for Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, they had no business winning that game. Per Moneypuck, which breaks down advanced metrics, the expected goals for the game were 5.6 to 1.8 in favor of Edmonton!

In other words, Bobrovsky made several unlikely saves, and if not for those, the Oilers would have won Game 1 nearly 87% of the time. So, while we expect them to even up the series, we’ll play it a bit safer and go over the total goals instead.

It’s clear that Oilers netminder Stuart Skinner isn’t as strong as Bobrovsky, and as for Edmonton’s scoring, we simply don’t expect Big Bob to completely shut out the likes of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who still lead the NHL in postseason points, two games in a row.

Leon Draisaitl - 2 or more points (+195)

Speaking of McDavid and Draisaitl, that’s exactly where we’re looking when it comes to the player prop markets. Seeing both of them go pointless is shocking in itself, especially with McDavid closing in on an assist record for the postseason.

This time, we’ll roll with his partner in crime, Draisaitl. It was the German leading the league in playoff points until just a few games ago, and his 10 goals are double that of McDavid. He’s a great balance of knowing when to take his chances and feed teammates like Zach Hyman.

There’s still no denying that Bobrovsky poses issues, and he very well may go on to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. However, that doesn’t mean completely shutting out skaters like Draisaitl is a likely outcome.

With Draisaitl second only to Hyman in postseason goals so far, the German ace also has 18 assists (behind only teammates McDavid and Evan Bouchard) and he looks good value to register at least two points of any description on Monday as the Oilers look to level up the series.
