Edmonton Oilers vs. Winnipeg Jets: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The Edmonton Oilers travel to Winnipeg to take on the Jets on Sunday evening.

The Jets are in the midst of an historic season for the franchise.

The team, which has clinched the top seed in the Western Conference and the Presidents’ Cup Trophy for the first time each, has won three straight. Winnipeg is a league best 29-6-4 at home and has won 6-of-7 at Canada Life Centre.

At 55-21-4 overall, the club has already set a franchise record for wins and its 114 points is tied for a team-best.

They beat Chicago Blackhawks 5-4 in a shootout last time out. Josh Morrissey scored twice and Kyle Connor had a goal and an assist for Winnipeg.

Connor and Cole Perfetti scored in the shootout, while Connor Hellebuyck recorded his franchise-record 46th win of the season.

Connor also scored twice and Morrisey had two assists in the team’s 4-0 victory over the Dallas Stars on Thursday.

Hellebuyck, the runaway leader for a second straight Vezina Trophy as the league’s top goaltender, made 25 saves and posted his NHL-leading eighth shutout of the season.

Hellebuyck is having a season for the ages. He could become the first NHL goaltender to lead the league in wins, goals allowed average, save percentage, and shutouts in a season since 1986. He currently boasts a 1.99 GAA and a .924 save percentage.

Edmonton has won two straight overall and sits third in the Pacific Division. The Oilers, defending Western Conference champions, have clinched their sixth straight playoff berth.

Despite a host of injuries, the Oilers have won two straight. Leon Draisatl, who leads the NHL with 52 goals and is third with 106 points, has missed four straight contests and eight of the past 11 games due to injuries.

Connor McDavid has 26 goals, is fourth in the league with 71 assists, and tied for fifth with 97 points.

The team defeated St. Louis Blues on Wednesday, 4-3, and the San Jose Sharks Friday night, 4-2.

Connor Brown had two goals and McDavid dished out three assists while Calvin Pickard made 26 saves in the win over St. Louis.

McDavid added four more assists  while Evan Bouchard had a goal and an assist and Pickard made 24 saves in the victory over San Jose.

Pickard has been impressive of late, going 5-1 with a 2.18 GAA as Skinner has been out with an injury.

Winnipeg has taken the first two meetings between the two clubs this season. That includes a 6-0 shutout on opening night, and a 4-3 overtime win in March. Connor had the winner for the Jets in that one.

No Canadian franchise has won the Stanley Cup in the past 31 years and teams from up north have lost their last seven appearances, including Edmonton in 2006 and last year. Winnipeg has never been. Could this be the year the drought ends?

In the meantime, read below to see our experts’ predictions for this matchup.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Winnipeg Jets betting picks and predictions

Winnipeg Jets -1.5 (+205)

As great of a season as Hellebuyck is having, he is even stingier at home. The four-time All-Star and two-time Vezina Trophy winner is 26-3-0 at Canada Life Centre with a 1.65 GAA and .936 save percentage.

He’s allowed an average of one goal per game over his last eight home contests. If Edmonton is without Draisatl again, good luck.

Winnipeg as a team leads the league with just 186 goals allowed, one of just two clubs to surrender last than 200.

The Jets are also third in the league in goals scored with 274 and lead the NHL in differential at +88. The team is averaging more than a goal more than its opponents for the entire season.

The Oilers have lost two straight on the road and could be without Draisatl, Skinner, forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and multiple top defensemen here.

Look for Winnipeg to cover the 1.5-goal spread as favorites.

Total Under 6 goals (+100)

Winnipeg is playing the second of a back-to-back and will look to keep the score down and shorthanded Edmonton might not have enough assets to break that wall.

Look for the two teams to combine to score less than 6 goals.

Kyle Connor anytime Goalscorer (+110)

Connor has three goals in his last two games and he leads the team with 41 goals, 55 assists, and 96 points overall. Look for him to add to that tally here.
