Part of the NHL slate on Tuesday sees us an enticing matchup between Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers and the Jack Eichel-led Vegas Golden Knights.
These games between two dominant Pacific Division rivals always bring fireworks and we are here to get you ready for what will be must-watch hockey.
Vegas comes into this game as the home underdogs. We know the Oilers have two of the best players in the entire league, but this still comes as a shock for a few reasons.
To begin with, Vegas leads the Pacific Division and have two less regulation losses than the fourth-placed Oilers do in one extra game played.
Edmonton has been slightly hotter as of late, but overall this season the Golden Knights have been more consistent. They’ve got a much deeper lineup and one of the best bluelines in the league.
Vegas is also healthier, missing only one key player in Mark Stone, while Edmonton is missing a whole forward line of contributors in Zach Hyman, Victor Arvidsson and Evander Kane, who has yet to play this season.
Vegas is also coming off an embarrassing 6-0 blowout loss to a much-weaker Utah Hockey Club. In this game in front of their home crowd, I expect this team to be prepared and greatly improve their on-ice performance.
Expect to see a plethora of goals in this contest. Each lineup is stacked with star talent, which includes a combined three players who are within the top-eight in NHL scoring.
Vegas is a top-five team in goals against, but Edmonton is always a threat to score multiple goals each night, especially as they are on a three-game winning streak.
Each team is also near the top-ten in worst goals against average, which means each group of skaters should be able to capitalize multiple times.
This should bring back and forth action, resulting in lots of combined tallies.
If the Oilers want a chance in this game, they will need to shut down the NHL’s third-highest point producer in Jack Eichel.
Whether they can or not remains a question, but there will be major focus on him.
This shifts the reliance of other key contributors for Vegas, specifically Tomas Hertl, who has been very consistent as a Golden Knight, but has not contributed a point in three straight games.
He will need to step up for his team and find the scoresheet, which may not be an issue against a middling defensive team in Edmonton.
