Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars Game 1: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

After fending off elimination in two straight games, it’s finally time for the Edmonton Oilers to see if they can get over the hump and advance past the Western Conference Finals.

For their Game 1 against the Dallas Stars, we’ve shared our best picks and predictions.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars betting picks and predictions

Oilers ML (+110)

We mentioned that it’s time for the Oilers to get over the hump, as fans in Edmonton are growing restless with their current Stanley Cup drought despite having the best skater in the world - Connor McDavid.

Along with another 100+ point scorer in Leon Draisaitl, the Oilers have the roster on paper that should make the Stanley Cup Final on a yearly basis.

While we could dwell on their past forever, it’s not just the fact that they’re “due” that we’re backing them in tonight’s Game 1. We’re focused on them riding their momentum from a Game 7 win on the road carrying them over a Stars team that has been off for quite some time.

In other words, this is a classic rest vs. rust situation, as Dallas made rather quick work of the Colorado Avalanche in the second round. They haven’t been on the ice since last Friday, making it nearly a week since their last game. Meanwhile, the Oilers should be running on all cylinders.

Admittedly, the Stars won the season series against Edmonton 2-1, but we’ve since seen the Oilers role players step up in a big way. Zach Hyman, not McDavid or Draisaitl, is leading the NHL in postseason shots and goals, and in terms of team-wide success, it’s all about the power play unit.

Edmonton has scored a power play goal in 11 of their 12 playoff games, and while offensive firepower is to be expected, it’s the opposite side of that which is even more impressive. The Oilers penalty kill has been incredible, working at a 91.4% rate, the best of any team this postseason.

Defense and goaltending are what has held back Edmonton in recent years, so with that vastly improving, we see them getting out to a series lead tonight.

Evan Bouchard over 2.5 shots on goal (-150)

When it comes to the role players stepping up as we previously stated, another one of those would be Evan Bouchard. Casual fans may still know Zach Hyman, but Bouchard has truly come out of the woodwork recently.

He’s had multiple game-winning goals in these playoffs, and frankly, has outperformed McDavid on several occasions. Although that is not to be expected, he has still been as consistent as can be. In fact, his 20 postseason points are just one fewer than McDavid.

Similarly, he’s been able to record so many points by consistently putting pressure on net. Through Edmonton’s 12 playoff games, he has recorded 40 shots on goal, good for nearly 3.5 shots per game. That’s why we’re paying a bit of a premium for this player prop, but it’s proven to be well worth it.

On top of all that, Bouchard also recorded the second-most shots against the Stars this season, behind only McDavid.

The defenseman recorded 14 shots on goal in their three contests, good for an average of over 4.5 shots per game.
