After a day off on Thursday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the NHL is back in a big way on Friday and there are 15 games on tap as all but two teams will suit up.
The day's action begins at 1 PM ET and goes all through the afternoon, evening, and night. Of many solid games, Avalanche vs. Stars is one of two that will be nationally televised on TNT and MAX.
Colorado-Dallas sets up to be a great game and here, we have our best bets for the showdown between Central Division teams who are currently tied in the standings.
The Avalanche and Stars have trended in different directions in the last week plus.
Colorado enters this game having won four out of their last five games and eight out of their last 10. Meanwhile, Dallas has dropped three out of their last five, with the losses coming to the Anaheim Ducks, Carolina Hurricanes, and Chicago Blackhawks.
Granted, Carolina is not a bad loss, but the other two defeats are tough and one of those wins was over a bad Sharks team. The Stars are just not a reliable play right now.
During Colorado’s current run, they have beaten the Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals, Florida Panthers, and Vegas Golden Knights. That’s a pretty impressive run, so the Avs are tough to fade at valuable plus money.
Mason Marchment has been fantastic for the Stars this season. He has 20 points in 20 games played and both his 20 points and +11 rating are second on the Dallas roster.
High scores have been trending for these teams lately which bodes well for Marchment, regardless of the outcome.
He is on a line that has a combined 64 points in 58 games and he is also on Dallas’ power play, so Marchment will have plenty of opportunities to produce in this one.
It has been a bit of a tumultuous start to the season for Colorado, but they’ve come to life lately and if anyone will lead a team in a strong run, it’s Nathan MacKinnon.
This is a big game in which Colorado can jump Dallas into the Central’s top three. This is far from a do or die game, but it is a statement game and MacKinnon usually thrives in those environments.
MacKinnon has 28 points in 23 games, skates on the top line and top power play, and shows up in big games. He is worth the wager.
