NFL Wild Card: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers preview

Wild Card weekend concludes with an NFC matchup between the Eagles and Buccaneers, which is now the second leg of a Monday doubleheader after the Steelers vs. Bills game was moved from Sunday.

Philadelphia has stumbled into the playoffs, losing five of six to close the regular season after a 10-1 start. Quarterback Jalen Hurts will be without start wide receiver A.J. Brown on Monday as last year's championship runners-up look to start anew in the postseason.

On the other side, the Bucs narrowly won the NFC South after what was expected to be a down year following Tom Brady's retirement. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has been one of the surprise performers of the NFL this year and can add to his legacy with a win Monday night.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers predictions

Buccaneers +3 -120

The Eagles have fallen into a spectacular slump since the start of December and it may be difficult for them to snap out of it to save their season.

Nick Sirianni's team were cruising towards a high seeding for the playoffs when they won 10 of their first 11 games, but since them they have lost five of their last six games and they suddenly look disjointed and have lost their confidence on both sides of the ball. Falling to the fifth seed means they now have to go on the road to play the fourth-seeded Buccaneers.

The losses to the 49ers and Cowboys that began the slide were understandable but it has continued with defeats to lesser lights in the Cardinals and Giants in their last two games.

In contrast, the Buccaneers looked out of contention at 4-7 but won five of their last six games to clinch the NFC South title and earn a home game in the playoffs.

They do not have many notable victories on their record this season and labored to a 9-0 win over the 2-15 Panthers in Week 18, but they have value as home underdogs getting a three-point start.

The only other home dogs of the week, the Texans, won outright against the Browns on Saturday and it would not be a huge surprise if the Bucs can do the same.

Mike Evans anytime touchdown scorer +120

The Buccaneers failed to score a touchdown at all against the Panthers last week but the Eagles defense has been much more generous of late. That opens the door for the Bucs' leading receiver Mike Evans to reach the end zone on Monday night.

Evans has scored 13 touchdowns this season, including his side's only TD when the teams faced each other in Week 3. Provided quarterback Baker Mayfield is not significantly affected by his recent rib and ankle injuries, he is likely to be targeting Evans early and often in this matchup.

The Eagles allowed a touchdown to Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton last week, while wideout Michael Wilson reached the end zone against them the previous week. Evans is a superior player to both of them and has a good chance to score an important touchdown for his team on Monday.

Dallas Goedert over 48.5 receiving yards -115

The Eagles' problems heading into the playoffs escalated when their leading wide receiver, AJ Brown, was ruled out of this game with a knee injury. Brown proved tough for the Bucs to handle in their first meeting and had 131 receiving yards.

His absence this time will mean more targets - and also more attention from defenders - for DeVonta Smith, but tight end Dallas Goedert should also benefit by getting more looks from quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Goedert played only 23 snaps in the Eagles' final game, but had 71 and 47 receiving yards in his previous two outings and should be looking to pass the 50-yard mark against a defense that has had trouble defending tight ends at times this season.

Philadelphia Eagles Injury Report

The Eagles have ruled out their top wide receiver AJ Brown and safety Sydney Brown due to knee injuries. Safety Reed Blankenship could also miss the game after not being able to practice all week but a late decision will be made on his participation.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Injury Report

Defensive end Mike Greene (calf) has been ruled out for the Buccaneers. Quarterback Baker Mayfield is expected to play but is rated questionable with rib and ankle injuries. Linebacker KJ Britt (calf) and cornerback Josh Hayes (quad/knee) are also questionable.

Philadelphia Eagles v Tampa Bay Buccaneers Stats

The Buccaneers have covered the spread in four of their last five games as underdogs.

The Eagles' last four road games have gone under the total.

The Eagles have lost five of their last six games, while the Bucs have won five of their last six.
