Washington Commanders vs. Detroit Lions: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

On Saturday night, the Detroit Lions host the Washington Commanders in a monumental NFL Divisional Round matchup at Ford Field.

The Lions, coming off a stellar 15-2 regular season that earned them the NFC's top seed and a first-round bye, will look to take another step towards their first-ever NFL Championship appearance.

Meanwhile, the Commanders are riding high after a thrilling 23-20 last-second victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wild Card Weekend. Washington finished second in the NFC East with a 12-5 regular season record and have now won six games in a row.

This matchup promises to be spectacular with two potent offenses set to put plenty of points on the board.

The Lions led the NFL with an average of 33.2 points per game in the regular season and quarterback Jared Goff has been at the heart of this success, throwing for 4,629 yards and 37 touchdowns.

Detroit’s dynamic running back duo of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery has provided a powerful one-two punch on the ground, while wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has emerged as one of the league's top targets.

Washington's offense has been equally impressive, led by rookie sensation Jayden Daniels. The young quarterback has thrown for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns, while adding 891 rushing yards and six scores on the ground.

After winning just four games last year, the Commanders more than tripled that total this season and will go into Saturday’s Divisional Round game with nothing to lose.

Washington Commanders vs. Detroit Lions betting picks and predictions

Lions -9.5 (-110)

While the spread may seem large for a playoff game, the Lions have been dominant at home this season. They've won seven of their nine games at Ford Field, often in convincing fashion.

The Commanders, despite their impressive Wild Card win over the Bucs, face a significantly tougher opponent this week in Detroit.

The Lions’ high-powered offense, coupled with their improved defense, should be too much for Washington to handle.

Moreover, the home team will be well-rested after their bye week, while the Commanders may still be feeling the effects of their hard-fought victory over Tampa Bay.

Some teams that secured a first-round playoff bye have begun by looking a bit rusty in the Divisional Round, but that should not be the case for Detroit.

The Lions went all-out until the finish of the regular season, culminating in their 31-9 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18 which was played with a playoff-level intensity. Back them to build on that victory here.

Over 55.5 Total Points (-110)

Both teams have shown the ability to put up points in bunches this season. The Lions lead the league in scoring, while the Commanders have proven they can keep pace with high-scoring opponents.

With playmakers like Goff, Gibbs, and St. Brown on one side and Daniels and Terry McLaurin on the other, this game has the potential to turn into a shootout.

While playoff games often trend towards the Under, the offensive firepower on display here makes the Over an attractive option.

Jahmyr Gibbs Anytime Touchdown Scorer (-200)

Gibbs has been a revelation for the Lions this season, providing explosive plays both on the ground and through the air.

He has scored a rushing touchdown in each of Detroit’s last four games and also added receiving scores in two of those to make it 20 total TDs for the year.

The Commanders' defense has been susceptible to big plays this season and Gibbs' versatility makes him a threat to score from anywhere on the field.

At these odds (-200), he represents good value as an anytime touchdown scorer.
