San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

It will be a battle in the NFC West when the San Francisco 49ers visit the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium in Week 3 of the NFL season on Sunday afternoon.

San Francisco won its opener against the New York Jets but is now looking to bounce back from a loss to the Minnesota Vikings, while Los Angeles is 0-2 following setbacks against the Detroit Lions and Arizona Cardinals.

With the game kicking off at 4:25 PM ET on FOX, it’s time to break down the 49ers vs. Rams matchup and discuss the best bets to make. 

San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams betting picks and predictions

San Francisco 49ers -7.0 (-110)

The 49ers and Rams may be able to field teams with the necessary number of players on Sunday, but to say that the injury situation is problematic for each side would be a gross understatement.

San Francisco will be without running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receiver Deebo Samuel, while Los Angeles is missing receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua.

Although any unexpected variable like these major injuries generally makes the playing field more level, that may not be the case in this matchup. After all, the 49ers are simply far the better team even without McCaffrey and Samuel – and especially when Kupp and Nacua are on the sidelines for the Rams.

The Niners certainly did not play well in Week 2, falling to Minnesota 23-17, but the Rams were even worse. Los Angeles was humiliated by Arizona 41-10.

It’s also worth noting that the Rams are also without three of their starters in the secondary. They were torched by Kyler Murray and Marvin Harrison Jr. this past weekend and now have to face a San Francisco offense that is leading the league in passing yards through two weeks.

Even though two of his favorite weapons are on the shelf, Brock Purdy still has guys like George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk at his disposal. He should be able to pick apart a vulnerable LA defense that is still trying to pick up the pieces from Aaron Donald’s retirement.

Look for the 49ers to win and cover on Sunday afternoon.  

Over 44.0 total points (-110)

Don’t be fooled by the modest 23-17 scoreline in San Francisco’s most recent outing against Minnesota. Those two squads combined for more than 800 total yards and more than 6.7 yards per play.

The 49ers were undone by turnovers and red-zone inefficiency, but those should not be problems against a Los Angeles defense whose issues are well documented.

Trent Williams and the rest of the offensive line are still playing great, which is why current RB1 Jordan Mason so far has done just about as much damage as McCaffrey generally did on a weekly basis last year. Mason has racked up 247 rushing yards and two touchdowns through two weeks.

All of this should allow the 49ers to contribute in a major way toward this modest 44.0 game total.

On the Rams’ side, Demarcus Robinson is capable of picking up some slack at the WR position and RB Kyren Williams has already found the endzone twice in 2024. If QB Matthew Stafford can do even a little bit on his end despite being down two receivers, the Over should hit.
