Many teams that have spent the last few years as the NFL's best — the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, and reigning champion Philadelphia Eagles — each have a Total Wins line of 11.5, which is the highest in the league.
Each of these teams surpassed 11.5 wins in 2024: Baltimore had 12, Buffalo won 13, the Chiefs had 15 wins, and the Eagles posted 14 wins.
The Bills are -140 to go Over their total, which is probably a reflection of the weak AFC East. The second-highest total in that division belongs to the Miami Dolphins at 8.5, while the New England Patriots are at 7.5 and the New York Jets have one of the league's lowest lines at 5.5.
Other teams with lines in the double digits are the Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, and San Francisco 49ers at 10.5 each.
Detroit was the best out of these teams in the 2024 season, posting a 15-2 record while winning a loaded NFC North before myriad injuries to defensive players derailed their season in the playoffs. Cincy finally paid its two star wide receivers this offseason but has a questionable defense, and the Niners recently saw an exodus of talent as they prepare to sign QB Brock Purdy to a huge contract extension.
The teams with the lowest lines are the Jets, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and Tennessee Titans, all at 5.5. Out of these teams, only the Jets reached five wins in 2024.
The Jets are rebuilding yet again under a new regime of head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey. Cleveland didn't get a first-round QB in the draft, and it's uncertain who will start under center for them in Week 1. The Giants drafted Abdul Carter third overall and traded back into the first round to get QB Jaxson Dart, but the team has many holes along its offensive line and in the defensive secondary. The Titans got their QB — they drafted Cam Ward first overall — but they still have plenty of holes on their roster.
When comparing 2025 preseason lines to 2024 win totals, the teams projected to improve the most are the Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, and San Francisco 49ers. The teams in line for the most regression include the Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Commanders, Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs.
The total wins lines indicate that all 32 teams will be closer together in terms of their win-loss records, as only 6.0 wins separate the lowest lines from the highest. In 2024, the best and worst teams were separated by 12 wins in the final standings.
