The first Sunday of the 2024 NFL regular season features a matchup between two teams that have points to prove this year, as the Atlanta Falcons host the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Falcons had a year to forget as they finished with a 7-10 record to miss the playoffs, which cost then-head coach Arthur Smith his job.

Pittsburgh continued their fine record under coach Mike Tomlin and finished 10-7 to reach the playoffs despite quarterback issues all season. The Steelers were outclassed in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, but they will be ready to push on and improve once again.

Both teams have new quarterbacks at the helm and it promises to be an interesting encounter on Sunday afternoon.

The Steelers will go into Sunday's game with a chip on their shoulder. While their offense has struggled in recent years, Tomlin's team continue to find a way to grind out wins, no matter how bad they are to watch.

Pittsburgh's defense bailed them out on numerous occasions in 2023, and they would often post more points than the offense, although they still fell short in the playoffs.

Neither Kenny Pickett nor Mason Rudolph could produce the goods, so the Steelers have turned to Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, with the former set to start the season.

Former Falcons coach Arthur Smith is also Pittsburgh's new offensive coordinator, so there are plenty of people within the organization that have something to prove in 2024.

Atlanta are the favorites to win at home, with new quarterback Kirk Cousins expected to get the best out of his team's underperforming offense.

However, Pittsburgh relish being underdogs, and they are 59-35-4 against the spread under Tomlin's guidance. His team are known for their bravery and work ethic and also have the defense needed to frustrate the home team.

Atlanta should certainly improve thanks to Cousins' arrival, but it is hard to know if they will click into place in week one.

However, Sunday's matchup is too early to evaluate the potential of both teams. The Steelers have enough offensive weapons to make progress, while the Falcons have so far failed to get the best out of wide receiver Drake London and tight end Kyle Pitts.

Smith's return to Atlanta is also one of the biggest stories in week one, as he largely lost his job due to their failing offense and poor results. It is, therefore, impossible to back the Over with so many changes to both teams.

Atlanta quarterback Cousins is coming off an Achilles injury, so he may not be at his peak for several weeks. He will have T.J. Watt for company for most of the game, with the Steelers ace pass rusher leading the NFL last year with 19.0 sacks.

Bijan Robinson anytime touchdown (-125)

Even at -125, Robinson looks a good price to score his opening touchdown of the 2024 season.

Robinson rushed for 976 yards as a rookie and also picked up 487 receiving yards. He scored four rushing touchdowns and four receiving, proving his worth as a dual-threat back.

He will be at the forefront of everything the Falcons do on offense this season, and he will look to lay down a marker against the Steelers on home soil in week one.
