New Orleans Saints vs. Kansas City Chiefs: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

There is only one Monday Night Football game following two consecutive weeks with a primetime double-header, but one may be enough considering the matchup between New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs.

It’s not necessarily a Super Bowl preview, but it’s close. Kansas City is favored in the AFC, while New Orleans is certainly in the NFC discussion.

With the game kicking off at 8:15 pm ET on ESPN on Monday, it’s time to break down this contest and discuss the best bets.

New Orleans Saints vs. Kansas City Chiefs betting picks and predictions

New Orleans Saints +5.5 (-105)

The Chiefs are undefeated at 4-0 and coming off back-to-back Super Bowl triumphs. Nonetheless, there could be trouble in paradise.

Running back Isiah Pacheco was already on injured reserve and now wide receiver Rashee Rice is sidelined for the foreseeable future by a knee injury that he sustained during last weekend’s victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

That means quarterback Patrick Mahomes is missing some of his most crucial offensive weapons. Head coach Andy Reid’s squad has not exactly been dominant despite its undefeated record and there is no reason to think that things will change on Monday.

In addition to the Chiefs being depleted, the Saints are formidable foes. Under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, they are No. 1 in the league by scoring 31.8 points per game.

QB Derek Carr finds himself in the top five in the NFL in yards per pass attempt (8.2) and completion percentage (71.3). Although New Orleans is 2-2, they could very easily be 4-0. Look for the visitors to cover the spread in this one.

Under 43.5 (-110)

The under seems like the way to play Monday’s game total. The Chiefs’ offense is without some key pieces and now runs into a strong Saints defense.

If not for a couple of untimely offensive miscues and a late defensive breakdown on one drive by the Eagles, head coach Dennis Allen’s team could also be 4-0.

The Chiefs are also showcasing a stellar defensive unit. They rank fourth league wide in yards per rush allowed (3.8), seventh in points per game allowed (18.0) and also seventh in touchdowns allowed in the red zone (42.9 percent).

New Orleans’ offense is no joke, but it has cooled off considerably since an especially hot first two weeks of the season.

Kareem Hunt Over 41.5 rushing yards (-110)

Hunt looks like just the guy to stabilize Kansas City’s backfield in the absence of Pacheco. Carson Steele had an opportunity the past couple of weeks, but his production was minimal at best, and he lost a fumble early in Week 4 against the Chargers.

Now it is Hunt’s turn after he was recently signed as a free agent. The Toledo product got 14 carries last Sunday and gained 69 yards.

Hunt is now going up against a Saints run defense that is not as good as its yards allowed per game (96.5) would suggest. Opposing ball-carriers are averaging 4.8 yards per attempt, seventh most in the NFL.
