The Los Angeles Rams have recovered from a 1-4 start to the season by winning three in a row to put themselves back in the play-off picture in a congested NFC West. They went into Week 10 just behind the 5-4 Arizona Cardinals.
Things could not be more contrasting with their Monday Night Football opponents, the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins' season was derailed by a Week Two concussion for quarterback Tua Tagavailoa, and they have gone 1-5 since that injury with their only success a 15-10 win over the New England Patriots.
Tagavailoa returned in Week 8 and has been on the wrong side of two defeats since then, losing 38-28 to the Arizona Cardinals and 30-27 to the Buffalo Bills.
The Miami Dolphins have been boosted by the return of Tagavailoa and they have arguably been unlucky not to win either of his first two games since returning from injury.
It must be remembered that when he is not injured he remains one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league and he has shown flashes of that on his return. He threw for two touchdowns and a passer rating of 124.9 against the Bills in Week Nine.
However the Dolphins are struggling to get over the line and win games, and their post-season dreams are receding quickly.
They face a Los Angeles Rams team who have won three in a row, against the Las Vegas Raiders, Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks.
Key to their success has been running back Kyren Williams, who has rushed for 602 yards as well as scoring eight rushing and two receiving touchdowns.
He has found the end zone in all but one game this season and the Dolphins can occasionally struggle against the rush, making this an interesting matchup.
The Dolphins are averaging 15.5 points per game but that does not tell the full story after putting up 27 points in back-to-back weeks, so they could help produce a game that goes over the total when they visit the SoFi Stadium.
Sean McVay’s team will be riding high after three wins in a row and have put up 30 and 26 points in their last two outings. They can play their part in making sure this game goes over the total, too.
The Dolphins have allowed 357 yards per game in their last two so this could be a back-and-forth scoring battle on Monday Night Football.
Kyren Willams has been a real workhorse for the Los Angeles Rams this season, rushing for 602 yards, good for 13th in the league.
Crucially he ranks joint-second in rushing first downs with 43, so can run it down the throat of a Miami Dolphins’ defense that has been weak at times this season.
Miami have allowed the second-highest rate of rushes of over ten yards this season and have allowed the most yards after contact per carry, 4.1.
Against such a tough runner, the Miami defense could be exposed again and it is worth siding with the Rams to give Williams plenty of the ball. Take him to go over the line of 84.5 rushing yards.
