The Philadelphia Eagles host the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs on Sunday afternoon.
The big question mark throughout the week heading into this game was the availability of Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, but he cleared concussion protocol on Friday and is good to go.
These teams met back in Week 1 of the regular season, and the Eagles won 34-29 in a game played in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The Philadelphia Eagles are rightfully favored in this Wild Card game.
Their comfortable division win meant that they were able to rest starters at the end of the regular season and keep themselves fresh for the playoffs.
The Eagles’ defense ranked second in the NFL in points allowed and first in yards allowed in the regular season and that will be crucial to this matchup.
The Green Bay Packers have a solid defense and five of their six losses came against teams that went 14-3 or better.
However, they face one of those teams in Philadelphia, who also have a legitimate MVP candidate at running back in the shape of Saquon Barkley.
The 27-year-old had 2,005 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, a tally that would have been a lot higher if it wasn’t for Hurts and his scores on goal-line Brotherly Shoves.
Barkley fell just 100 yards short of Eric Dickerson’s single-season record for rushing yards and is likely to star once again.
The Packers’ strategy will be similar to that of the Birds, as they will look to run the ball a lot. Josh Jacobs had 1,329 yards rushing in the regular season. Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love suffered an elbow injury against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, so they look set to lean on Jacobs heavily.
However, the issue with that strategy is that the Eagles and Barkley should be able to do it better than Jacobs and the Packers.
The home team have covered the spread in 10 of their last 13 games and beat these opponents 34-29 in Week 1 at a neutral site despite Hurts turning over the ball three times.
The Eagles' strategy of playing shutdown defense and running the ball relentlessly with Barkley looks likely to be effective and they can cover the -4.5-point spread in a playoff win.
Since the Eagles’ 20-16 win over the Cleveland Browns in October, Barkley has rushed for over 100 yards in nine of the 11 games that he has played.
He was rested in the final game of the season against the New York Giants and missed out on the single-season rushing record as a result. That can only have fired him up even more for some big postseason performances.
Barkley is having a special season and can continue in the playoffs that by going Over his rushing yards line of 100.5 once again.
