2025 NFL Draft: How many quarterbacks will go in the first round?

With the 2025 NFL Draft on the horizon, we take a look at how many quarterbacks could be selected in the first round.

It is no secret that this year’s quarterback class is not the strongest group of prospects we have ever seen.

Outside of consensus No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward, who is expected to be the first name off the board on Thursday night, there is plenty of uncertainty around where other top QB prospects – including the much-talked about Shedeur Sanders – may land.

As a result, over 2.5 quarterbacks to be drafted in the first round is -110.

Ward, a 2024 Heisman Trophy finalist, will be the first, with the former Miami signal-caller impressing scouts and coaches throughout the draft process. He is a massive -20000 favorite to go No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans.

Sanders, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, is the presumed second-best QB in this draft class and -225 to be the second QB selected on Thursday night.

Long considered a potential top-five pick, Sanders’ stock has slid in recent months as draft analysts gather more information on how teams feel about him. Sanders’ over-under draft position as of Wednesday morning is 10.5, with the over – meaning he would be selected with the 11th pick or later – a -330 favorite, with under 10.5 priced at +240.

A potential third QB to go in the first round is Ole Miss product Jaxson Dart, a player whose stock has improved since the end of the 2024/25 college football season. Dart is -300 to be a 1st Round Pick on Thursday night, with hit over-under draft position set at 24.5.

Recent reports indicate that the New York Giants, who are the favorites to select Dart at +200, or Cleveland Browns (+500) may pass on a QB with their early first-round picks, then put together a trade package to move back into the late-first round to take Dart or Sanders.

Alabama dual-threat QB Jalen Milroe is +135 to be selected in the 1st round, with Louisville’s Tyler Shough a +300 shot.

It is not uncommon for QB-needy teams to be ultra-aggressive on draft night to get the player they want. Last year, there were six QBs taken in the first 12 picks of the draft, including the Atlanta Falcons’ surprise selection at No. 8, where they took Michael Penix Jr.

At least three quarterbacks have been picked in the first round in eight of the last nine NFL drafts. The only outlier was in 2022, when Kenny Pickett was the only QB taken in the first round at pick No. 20.
